I’ve had zero problems with the Toyotas and they ride better on the highway.

x2 Hate to say it but go for a toyota, 90s version were extremely reliable.
Toyotas are made in Texas and Toyota is 50% owned by Americans.

Chevy’s are mainly made in Mexico and they slap a “made in USA” label on them by treaty. GM is owned by an anti-American communist union.

I have always been partial to Ford myself but that’s more of a passed along loyalty than anything else really.

No. Toyotas are assembled in Texas with the majority of parts foreign made. My GM truck is assembled in Fort Wayne with 74% US content.

LOL at the anti-american comment, despite their irrelevance today unions created the middle class in Michigan. It is their propensity to protect the dregs of their members that has sucked them down.

I do agree that sending their parts production to Mexico has gutted the us automakers now. If the people making your cars can’t afford them you are doomed.

Edit* I rescind my comment on the percentage of content on the Toyota trucks, it appears it is quite high.

Also I commend a company that treats its workers well enough that there is no need for unions. I don’t believe US automakers are there yet.

If all you need is a half tonne in that price range, consider a diesel gm 1500 from the 90s. 6.5s are fantastic for work. Fuel milliage and reliability is hard to beat. They’re not a cummins or powerstroke, power wise, but if your not towing a big trailer it doesn’t matter, and you won’t have to pay that big diesel premium price tag.

Watch out for homos who tryed to tune it and broke the crank shaft (again this is NOT a powerstroke / cummins. Think of it as the diesel jetta of pickups). And make sure the PMD (pump mounted driver) has been relocated - which should be all of them that still run at this point. These trucks also come with the bonus of being built on the heavier trucks frame, so they’re a little beefier than most other half tonnes.

We call Ford Diesels “powerstruggles”

I test drove a late 90’s early 2000’s GMC 1500 that was a “Heavy Half”. it was built on the 2500 frame and had the 2500 suspension, but the smaller V8 from the 1500. The thing was a tank and could haul (meaning support, not necessarily pull) the same capacity as the 2500. The only reason i didn’t buy it was it was a single cab.

Another option to look at is Fastenal. They are a hardware (screws, nuts, bolts, ect) supplier that resells their fleet trucks after a couple of years. the machine shop i used to work for bought a 2002 dodge ram 1500 for cheap. they are low mileage and in very good shape. you might want to have a look at their website.

Didn’t know that, good stuff.

Yeah, the line between “domestic” and “import” has become pretty blurred over the past several years.

I still like Fords though because I’m a dumb hillbilly and my brother drives a Ford and my dad drives a Ford and my grandpa drove a Ford…

Wow what a deal. I’m going to be pissed off if you tell us it had less than 150k on it.
Lol… it had less than 100k on it. Somewhere around 92k and it looks real presentable in & out. It came with a big class 3 receiver hitch and a winch mounted in the bed. The PO used it to take his outboard motor on & off his boat.

Rob

I bought the truck yesterday its a 2000 V8 F150 L extended cab Auto 2wd 153K miles I got it for $1500 after some Jewish shananigans… Pretty clean body runs good. Its not as hoss as my last Ford… I had a 1990 Ford F150 XLT Lariat 2wd manual I loved it. This feels like dating a stripper with DDs then moving in with a bitch with C’s… I think Im gonna save my $$$ and sell this and get a F250 long bed

Same with someone said earlier, buy the one that’s nicest with your money. I mean, some of the trucks are the same god damn truck with a different name on it(think Chevy silverado=gmc whatever the truck is called)
