Side vents…some prefer the term double vents. And ventless should be obvious at this point.

…just trying to get a feel for the suit.
Are you thin, fat, or athletic?
As far as the look goes…you are trying to essentially put something together that you would wear to a funeral…with the dark suit…day of the dead theme? Is that the idea?
i think you’re going to have to translate all of that for the op.
Yeah I guess you’re right…pictures will probably be easiest.[/quote]
So what do you have OP?
Wow Jp, top notch presentation. lol
10/10 on the “help you out” scale
JP you have no idea how happy I am that the “cuff” pictures had only one break… there is hope…
Good job JP, very nice.
I say the puffy shirt from Seinfeld
Classic white dress shirt. Cuffs if you’re at least 6’0 - 6’1. JP, brown shoes and belt with a navy suit, no?

Some people go with black shoes and belt, no matter what color the suit it. With navy I prefer a rich dark brown pair of shoes and brown belt. I also like the classic white shirt, with maybe a yellow tie with blue strips.

My nickname here in Iraq is “Thorough John” and it’s because of shit like this. It’s some kind of compulsion really…
I was going to say that the OP will probably never come back to this thread after going to the effort. But I just went back and reread his post, and it said for a party “tonight”… I thought Day of the Dead was November 1st so I figured we had some time.
I guess the point is moot now…maybe he’ll come back and tell us what he went with.

I know, right? That shit is an art and takes a good tailor to make the pants long enough at the heel so that you’re not flashing an unattractive amount of sock while walking, but short enough that you don’t end up with 4 breaks and a few yards of fabric swallowing your shoes while at a stand still.
But if I have to lean one way or the other, it’s always longer. While I hate too much bagginess, I REALLY hate highwaters when I walk. The Tom Browne look is not for me.

Don’t get me started with the puffy shirts… =)
No matter what his answer was on the suit, my recommendation on the shirt would have involved a fitted shirt…assuming his body type answer was either thin or athletic. And given the demographic of T-Nation, I figured that would probably be the case. If you’re fat…well no getting around a full cut shirt.
But one thing that many men can do to immediately improve their look, is stop with the billowy shirts.

I’m almost sure my answer would have been a crisp white shirt, especially if he was going for the funeral appropriate look. No matter what, that’s always a good recommendation. That’s why a man can’t have too many white dress shirts in his closet.

The OP specified black shoes and a black belt…so I assumed that was a constant in the equation. And again assuming that the theme was mourning, then black shoes would have been my recommendation anyway.
But I love brown shoes with a navy suit. A dark burnished pair of cap toes with a lot of brogueing…
But brown shoes is always considered more casual than black. The sartorial rules have become more and more blurred over the years, particularly after the advent of business-casual in the 90’s. But brown shoes used to be a big no-no for the office. And there are still certain law firms, financial institutions, etc. that are stuffy about that.
