WFA: Quentin Jackson vs Matt Lindland
I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Lindland and didn’t expect much from him coming into this fight. He put up a good fight, however, and it easily could have gone his way.
That said, WTF is up with Jackson? Most of the fights I have seen of him make me think to myself “wasted talent.” Does he just not train hard? Does he not train smart? The guy is an incredible athlete, incredibly strong, yet he routinely puts himself in bad positions or makes bad decisions. Am I the only one who feels this way?
One more thing I want to add about the WFA card. I know Bas’ opponent took the fight on short notice, and I know he had no chance, but damn Bas looked good. Everything he threw had snap to it. I would have loved to see Bas kick Kimo’s ass.
Matt Lindland is one of the top 185 lbs fighters in the world.
In fact MMAweekly.com currently have him ranked as the third best middleweight (185 lbs fighter) in the world.
Lindland is good. He is an Olympic medallist.
Lindland’s problem is that, the Jackson fight doesn’t reflect this, is that he can be boring. Or he can be involved in fights that the casual fan finds boring. That is the reason the UFC found a reason to release him when he was, in all honesty, the number one contender to Franklin?s title.
Jackson having trouble with Lindland isn’t a bad reflection on him. Lindland is very, very good.
I can’t knock Jackson for this fight. Lindland came in prepared and took it straight to Jackson’s ass. This was not a fight where Jackson came in uninspired, if he had, he would’ve just given up in that last round when Lindland almost sank the guillotine, instead he fought thru it and managed to do enough in that last 30 seconds to steal the round on two of the judge’s scorecards. It was a good fight, and a see-saw battle throughout.
Those that don’t really like Lindland were probably expecting him to come out and try to lay on Jackson for a decision, but he didn’t, and actually tried to end the fight. Big ups to him and Jackson for making this fight as good as it was.
