Looks like the supreme court defended their 1st amendment rights.

I am glad that the supreme court decided that. We can’t give up our core rights just because we don’t agree with them. I would like to see someone flip out and temporarily go insane on them. I think the prison system would be incredibly kind to whomever did such an act.

I agree. If we are going to protect freedom of speech, we have to protect it for everybody.
I think the Westboro baptist church is a piece of shit. But there are other ways to hurt them. It’s up to the people, not the governement to stop their bullshit.
Quite frankly, we’re better at it.
No one likes the WBC, but at the time of Snyder’s funeral, they were 1000 feet away and apparently didn’t disrupt the service. The WBC abided by the guidance of the local police department and was nonviolent. If you’re going to have a protest, thats the way to do it.
Apparently Maryland no longer allows pickets at funerals. Which is pretty ballsy, and sounds like an interesting way to keep the WBC out of the state.
If I was the local chief of police wherever the grieving family was having their service, I would simply cite “security concerns” and move their bullshit protest a mile away. Problem solved.
Also, at what point does freedom of speech become harassment? Is the right of these douchebags to “protest” greater than the right of a grieving family to bury their loved one in peace and free from harassment? Does the right to free speech allow for me to walk through a public playground screaming obscenities in the midst of children?
If they did that bullshit at my sons funeral, they’d better be praying, and that’s not a joke. No telling what I would do. God damn I hate religion.

Of course, anyone who does kill them should go to jail. However, I would fully support their decision.
Killing them goes a little far IMO , but a good old fashioned ass whoopin is in order :)
Assault would just give them sympathy and mobilize people to their cause. Killing them quietly and without attention is far less likely to do so.

In the 6th chapter of the book of proverbs where is listed seven things that God hates and are an abomination to Him, “haughty eyes” are number one on the list.
Jesus set an adulteress free and told the holier than thou religious leaders of His day that they were making their converts twice the sons of hell they were. Make no mistake. The attitude these people live in is an abomination to the God they claim to serve and is in no way representative of biblical Christianity.

Nice, I like this. But I must say that I see a need to provide some peace to mourners at a funeral. I don’t think these people should be allowed to use their freedom of speech to tear at people in their hour of grief.

Amen.

The problem, as usual, is the application of a good principle to a particularly egregious fact pattern. This amicus brief does a good job of explaining why the USSC voted 8-1 (Alito dissented) that the protests were protected speech under the First Amendment: http://thefire.org/public/pdfs/fd841b7915376eedd83d8e9375e87c38.pdf?direct

There is such thing as an assault on one’s moral sensibilities.
As well, I was down in Tucson for the Federal Judge’s funeral as he’s a Brother Knight and we made a barrier around the property. I can tell this, those that corrupt the word of G-d as WBC does, be them damned to Hell.

It’s people like the WBC members that make me want to believe in a hell.
