How could you have possibly “won” Afghanistan?

The definition would be to beat the living fuck out of al qaela/taliban so they do not exist within or near. Destroy them to the point they cannot reorganize. Have the local government not be a treat to us or our allies. These three objectives would be considered an “win”.
So I guess they haven’t been trying to accomplish any of this for the past nine years huh?

Who can do this? The Soviets couldn’t… hell, no one who has invaded the country in the history of the world has been able to. Why are we different?

That country is a quagmire just like Vietnam. Hell, I don’t even really like the “We’re going to stay for another year” but at least there’s a date set now.

Why do I care what they do in Afghanistan? Is it more dangerous than what’s being done in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia or any of the other countries filled with murderous psychos?

Please.

vegita, please stop posting about topics you know nothing about. What Obama says about a pullout, and what actually happens, are two entirely different things. Do you honestly believe there are no spec war and CIA operators doing spookey shit there as we speak?

Stabilize the nation (I use that term loosely), make it friendly to the US and our allies or at least beneficial to our foreign policy in the region, train them to kill the fucking terrorists. Gotta get them pakis to help, but limp wristed executives don’t help the matter.

@erik the red

you cannot fight ideas with bullets, but you can kill the people thinking them with said bullets.

And 14 out of 19 were… Saudis. So I don’t want to hear it.

I really don’t care much about winning Miss Popularity contests. I’m much more caring about my fellow countrymen…
Push, do you know of a single war in the last 60 years that has saved more American lives than it killed?

Believe me, if any terrorist attack has been prevented, it’s due to intelligence gathering, police work (in a Lester Freamon kind of voice), global cooperation, and shit like that. This is not a war against states or a localized enemy. Al-Qaeda and co. transcend borders and there are greater chances of the US being attacked by an American terrorist than by a foreigner.

This much should be trivial.

Now, sure, waging war against Germany during WWII was a good thing. But don’t pretend that this terrorism stuff has to do with that.

The Taliban lurred you in. And are now bleeding you. It’s that simple. As a side-effect, they get more Afghans that want to join the “kill Americans” cause.

The only angle that might justify staying there would have to be emotional. You ain’t thinking with your head!

Gone in there with a full force and wipe out Al Qaeda. Get as much as humanly possible then leave.

Its never going to be a “Real” country, it is tribe based. But take out a lot of the tribes and you won’t have to be worrying about anything for quite a while.
Fucking Christ, you can’t “take out Al Qaeda” its NOT a fucking standing army. This whole logic is insane. I’m amazed people buy into this bullshit.

The war in Afghanistan wasn’t meant to be won, simply sustained for profit for as long as the American public would endure. Same goes for Iraq. Al fucking Qaeda…

Where was the attack planned? Afghanistan. Where is/was the Al Qaeda strong hold? Afghanistan.

You really think these people are going to end there holy war if we leave?

You can eliminate them from Afghanistan.

This war has nothing to do with profits, we where attacked.

I don’t get why people are so willing to surrender to Al Qaeda.

I would laugh if it wasn’t so sad people believed this. I’m honestly saddened to my heart that people really believe the bullshit you just said.

Do tell how Afghanistan was not the strong hold? And do tell me how they will end their holy war when we leave.

Holy fucking hell what standing army attacked us?

You really believe we should attack an largely exaggerated and unproven cell of terrorist by invading a sovereign nation? Next lets attack Columbine, the source of those wacky fuckers who attacked our schools…

This logic of course is assuming the attacks even originated from Afghanistan… something I’m curious to see your proof of.

Oh wait hold on, the metals and materials from the decimated twin towers were promptly collected and melted down destroying the chance of any real investigation. Instead we were left with a gift from god. Yes, God All Mighty removed passports and praise allah bullshit from the terrorists bags and placed them nicely at the bottom of the wreckage. Praise God!

I’m not asking everyone to be as skeptical in nature as me but holy fucking shit its your duty as Americans to ask questions.

Therizza, you’re right - you can kill the people thinking them with said bullets. And pushharder, hey, you’re right, too - you can fight against real live people who harbor “ideas,” such as Mussolini, Hitler, and Tojo.

I don’t deny that bullets worked for them. It is legitimate to ask, however, why bullets don’t always “work” against ideas. History is rife with examples of bullets failing to stop ideas from coming to fruition. Take the French for example. Why did their bullets fail to stop Algerian and Vietnamese independence? In your opinion, what did the French have to do if they wanted to keep those ex-colonies?

Can you kill people with ideas? Sure. But how are you going to stop other people with the same ideas from replacing them? I concede that bullets might be a legitimate aid, but only in conjunction with other efforts. And if we’re going to use these “other efforts,” you might not need the bullets to begin with.

What the fuck? Tell me how the kingdom of smurf isn’t the strong hold. What the fuck kind of illogical bastard taught you that thinking? The burden of proof for INVADING A NATION is on YOU, not me. Illogical, irrational…

Where you shaken as a baby? When did I ever say a standing army attacked us. Afghanistan was/is harboring terrorists, the terrorists that attacked us.

This is from Wiki, Planning of the September 11 attacks - Wikipedia

About a quarter of the way down the page you can read about the planning of the September 11th attack. KSM went to meet with OBL in Afghanistan.

Again I find myself asking, where you shaken as a baby?

Lets just all hold hands and sing KUMBAYA.

There now we’re all safe.

News Flash: You can’t reason with a fanatic or their ideas. Do you seriously believe that if you give them an inch that they won’t want a mile?
