I know some people are against educating the children of illegal immigrants, but this is one of the reasons it is a good idea.
It forces them to learn English and to learn American values. It also allows them to participate effectively in the economy and pay more taxes.

Except it doesn’t do any of those things. Instead, school districts offer all-Spanish classrooms to accommodate these kids. How does educating their children cause illegals to participate effectively in the economy and pay more taxes? Especially with itinerant workers, they have nothing invested in the local school system. Even if they stay in one place, I’ve seen no evidence of greater civic involvement. They won’t be participating more effectively in the economy if they’re sending every spare dime back home to the relatives in Mexico, and they probably aren’t paying taxes at all.
So how does that work, exactly?
I’ve said this a dozen times, at least:
Annex Mexico. Problem(s) solved.
Then we have a state in which the official language is spanish and not english. Big deal.
A large chunk of our population already speaks spanish. Big deal. Get used to it. Or better yet, learn from the dinosaurs and adapt to the changes. I know, that’s a novel concept for some of us, but this is life.
Some of us bellyache about how the folks getting here (legally or not) “expect” us to change to suit them. As soon as somebody visionary/capable can make money by doing so, then it will happen whether you like it or not. It is the way of capitalism… the way of the force.
The national border between Mexico and the US is artificial and unnecessary… this much is obvious by the behavior of the Mexicans themselves. Adapt. Annex Mexico. Resistance is futile.

I’ll never understand why you act like this in this forum. The 3 or 4 times you’ve actually calmed down and written like a rational person you’ve made great contributions. But you’d rather just do this. It’s just old now.

I agree, make it the 51st state. It won’t be “Mexico” anymore, it’ll be that state where americans go to get steroids and watch donkey shows.

See guys? How hard is this? I can’t understand why there’s such a big stink about the “Mexican Problem”. No Mexico, no problem.

What joke!
This is nothing more than a smoke screen to divert attention from the Presidents pathetically weak stance on our very serious border problem.
In other words, politics as usual…and it makes me want to PUKE![/quote]
Why are you anti-business?

It doesn’t bother me at all that they sing it in a different language. It’s a worker’s movement trying to get some publicity. They’re not mocking it at all.
However, on the notion about speaking Spanish all over the place in America…here you go. My grandparents had to learn it. So should you.
Actually, my understanding from history is that when people first immigrated to the US it was considered inappropriate to speak their first language in public. So they learned English quickly and used it in public to “fit in”.
Imagine that; going to another country and not expecting them to change everything for you and wanting to fit in with those already here. Freaks!

Good post! And all we do by mollycoddling immigrants is prevent them from entering the mainstream.
One of my best friends in grad school was a mathematician from Poland. He learned the language, figured out that communism was the dumbest fucking idea on the planet (this was the 80’s), told his university in Poland to ‘Fuck off’ (like a good American!) and now teaches at Yale, as a citizen. (Yeah, he’s a lot smarter than me.)
America is the best country on this planet! If someone comes here, learn our damn language!
