I don’t get how no one here ever sticks things in their ear! Have you actually ever stuck anything in your ear? I know for a fact the inside of my ear is nowhere near as fragile as everyone makes theirs out to be. I’d have to be a real jackass to actually damage myself. When I feel that i’ve gone as far as my ear canal will go, I stop.
Do I just have a relatively tough membrane at the end of my outer ear canal? Has anyone who is saying not to stick something in your ear actually hurt themselves at one point doing it? I can see being a little intimidated when you hear about a kid jabbing himself with a pencil in there and damaging something, but anyone with nerves and a steady hand should be perfectly capable of not damaging themselves with a dull q-tip.[/quote]
Its not about causing damage, although that can happen. For starters,if the problem is “swimmers ear” it could likely be an infection that no Q-tip in the world can fix. Also, the Q-tip can push the wax in the canal further back into the ear and compact it into an obstruction.
The general rule is to not stick anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.

Exactly. Your ear is pretty much self-regulating. Sticking stuff in there is like sticking stuff in your ass…I assume.

You’re not alone. Never had a problem.
