Chrismcl, what I meant by my comment was, and I will try to make it more clear this time, that you are living proof that abortions should be an option for everyone. If you’re parents had have been given the chance to abort we would all be better off now. So by this, you mean it’s somehow WOMEN’S fault for getting pregnant? So it’s women’s duty to have the baby?
Or will you be a true T-Man should you impregnate someone? Share the cost of pre/post-natal care, support her emotionally and financially (she may need to take a long maternity leave, etc.)? Help out w/ the whole process of giving the kid up for adoption, etc?

BTW – many people make stupid mistakes and decisions, and they correct the mistakes. War on Drugs commercials won’t really mean anything to the addicts. At the most it may scare some kids. I think the government’s trying to deter children from using drugs, and I applaud their effort; however, most of times, the anti-drug education/sessions are rather stupid cuz you have teachers say dumb things like, “Cocain will instantly kill you” or “Illegal steroid will make you really stupid and unable to perform in bed” or something like that, and kids are smart enough to know that’s not true. Hard to be credible w/ kids when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Zev, you were talking about eugenics. I think abortion basically accomplishes the same effect, if you look at the demographics. What groups have the most abortions? The bottom end of the Bell Curve, that’s who.
There is a problem with the way you suggested eugenics to be enacted: who comes up with the criteria? No matter what the criteria are, somebody’s gonna be pissed off. How about this one - “Nobody who spends more than 3 hours a week in the gym can reproduce, they waste enough of society’s time as it is.” See, it’s dangerous.
There’s a better alternative, especially in a capitalist market economy - instead of rewarding people for having kids (tax breaks, etc.), penalize them! It doesn’t make sense that people with kids pay less taxes anyway… they create another person, thereby placing a greater demand on the system. Another person in the schools, the health care, the retirement system. So they pay LESS into the system!? It doesn’t make sense. And if you really need that tax break to support a kid, well, don’t have a kid, you obviously can’t afford it.
Of course, these policies would be viewed as financial discrimination, allowing only the wealthy to have children. And since economics are correlated to race in this country, racial discrimination, thereby violation Equal Protection. It’ll never happen.

OK, here’s a solution that ties the original topic with the other topic. Legalize every drug, hell just let people have as much as they want. Make them the most powerful, potent drugs out there, and give it all away for free! The truly stupid people will end up killing themselves off, and then you don’t have to worry about them reproducing anymore. Just an idea. But then you still got the people that are naturally stupid without drugs, which I have met… damn we can’t win.

No one ever said a real eugenics program would make people happy. Of course it’s gonna offend people. Tough shit. It may turn out that even some of our beloved T-brethren would lose the right to reproduce. So be it. As for who decides the standards by which the right-to-parent tests would be administered, I’m perfectly happy taking one for the team and creating the policy. I don’t have much to do this weekend anyway.

Zev, you said “the reproductive rates of the least fit now far exceed the reprodutive rates of the most fit.” It’s true that the least fit reproduce at a higher rate (one, they have more kids on average, two they have kids when they’re 18 instead of 30, so the generation turnover rate is higher). Imagine how much worse it would be without abortions though!
By the way, I think this thread got started on drugs then switched to abortion. They’re really the same issue though. Roe v. Wade decided that we have a right to privacy which isn’t explicitly stated in the Constitution (the 9th Amendment allows for it though). Based on that, abortion is something which can’t be banned because it violates that privacy. So how do they get away with banning drugs, and even prostitution, and a million other things that “a woman can do with her body” which seem at least as “private” as abortion is? I guess the excuse is “compelling state interest,” but I don’t buy it, you could say that about cigarettes, alcohol, anything. Mass sterilization might be in “state interest.”

Why is it considered two murders if you kill a mother who is pregnant and the child doesn’t survive? Is a fetus considered a human in that regard?
As far as legalizing drugs: Prescriptions drugs are fast becoming the most abused drugs in the U.S. Many of these are obtained LEGALLY through prescriptions. They are then sold on the street several times more than their original cost. If you legalize drugs, there will still be a profit to be gained from selling them on the street. Not to make a total generalization, but the only people I know who want to legalize drugs are those who use drugs. Making it easier for people to get drugs will further cause society to plummet because their brains are fried. You don’t help a drug problem by making it easier to get them. That will only cause more and heavier drug users. The best way to deter drug use is by educating our kids, staying involved with them, and locking up the suppliers. We should also be taking away their profits and fruits of their labors by seizing property and money made from their sale of drugs.
Gee Whiskey, that what they have been doing and it hasn’t been working. Worse than that it is an utter failure and a disgrace. The project should be abandoned. The only way to get control of it is to legalize. Prohabition doesn’t work. It failed in the '20’s and it is currently failing now. Besides, irregardless of that fact I don’t see where it is the government’s business what a person puts into his or her body. It is up to the individual to make good decisions. We adults do not need “parents”, we can make up our own minds. If somebody wants to die from a speedball, or smoke ice and die later, I don’t see how its my problem. Let them die. It thier decsions they have to live with, or die with. Besides most people do ‘bad’ things to thier bodies all the time, and most of them do it legally. We don’t need to control them either.
