My friend, there are many breathing exercises that singers will tell you to employ. You have to basically relearn how to breathe.

Those breathing techniques are often the same ones that you do to fix premature ejaculation.

Random comment I know,

Lol…random indeed. Might I inquire as to how you know the breathing exercises are in fact the same? Are you both a struggling singer and a struggling …loveeeeeeeeer? Interesting though.

SteelyD, you seemingly have a bandana for all occasions. Do you own a black one for somber times?

I was doing sound for a play a few years ago and the female lead was having problems so I brewed up some herbal tea with honey and told her to sip it before the shows and whenever she was off stage. She sounded a lot better for the remainder of the shows. Something about hot liquids and honey. [/quote]

I was doing a girl that was in a play a few years ago and she would get hoarse the day after the show and have to not talk all day to get ready for the next show. I did the honey and tea thing for her and then suggested sucking on my dick and swallowing would help also. The play ran for 5 days and I made this suggestion every day. She would always sigh kinda suggestively and say, ‘yeah I bet it would’… we’d end up having sex, but she never hoovered me and swallowed…on the last day of the show I asked her why she didn’t suck my dick and swallow if she really did ‘bet it would’ help her throat…she said…‘oh…you’re serious? I just thought you were joking and teasing me’…she then proceeded to suck on my dick and swallow everything down…she then thanked me and said she wished she’d known I was serious from the beginning…I can’t say that she sang any better that night, but it sure was a good blowjob.

The moral of this story is:

Girls can be so dumb.

This is why communication is so important.

Haha good call, but no my mum and sisters did singing lessons, so they were always doing the breathing things.
I was curious about tantric sex a few years ago so I read up on it. Having an orgasm without ejaculating is cool but it does take away from the intimacy when your concentrating on breathing and shit.

Why didn’t I think of that?

I would second what a couple of others have said and work on your breathing. There is a book called “The Structure of Singing” by Richard Miller that I would look into for exercises and general instruction on how to breathe. It’s quite expensive so I’d see if you could find it at a library somehow.

Your biggest enemy as you try to sing higher is going to be vocal tension in your larynx. Be careful that, as you learn to use more air, your throat doesn’t get tighter. When you are vocally tense, it feels like your larynx is rising higher and higher in your throat. Focus on trying to relax it so that it stays in its natural position. DO NOT, however, force it down. You might want to look into something called vocal placement. Roughly speaking, it deals with these issues.

Be careful when finding a teacher. Most, I think, will be more interested in having you sing classical then rock and roll. You probably will want to ask them about that from the start. Although rock and classical CAN share a similar technique basis, they are very different arts. Most rock singers sing with very tense throats. That’s the exact opposite of what you would go for in classical. Also realize that, just like bodybuilding, genetics, so to speak, can play a very significant role. Not everyone is born with chords that can sing really high notes. Freddie Mercury, for example, is a vocal freak. Rock singers, because of their natural gifts, can sometimes get away with pounding their voices. If the average joe did that, he might injure his voice. An elite set of vocal chords is probably as rare as elite bodybuilding genetics.

I studied vocal music for awhile in college. Hope that is helpful and coherent.

Don’t feel bad…maybe you’ll get a chance to sing in another play sometime.
