That’s a typical group think, looking for someone to blame… See it was Neo Nazi’s! Or Donald Trump! Or Antifa! or Republicans! or Democrats! Truth is it could be any of those things or none of them. Motive is important so we can improve our ability to spot nutbags in our midst. I must admit the motive is driving me nuts in this case. He didn’t do it for no reason. He wanted something, maybe just wanted fame or something stupid like that. I have seen first hand pathology moving in our midst undetected, I sure was fooled. But hindsight grants that there were signs, like big street signs.
Texas thoughts:
My SAC is on leave, so yesterday I had to cover for him in a meeting, which was made up of military brass, state department analysts, military intelligence analysts, and a couple of knuckle draggers like me. With this diverse group, I knew the next hour would be a pure waste of time and several of my brain cells would be dying at a rapid rate. Since GOD had not arrived yet (CG), the talk was about the Texas shooter, with the Army people smugly pointing out the Air Force blunder. Well guess what, dickhead, mistakes are made all the time and it wasn’t the Air Force who pulled the trigger.
There was the usual division among these “professionals” on all the issues until someone made the mistake of asking my opinion. I said if someone had been armed in that church, many lives would have been saved. He was a demonstrated coward, because the first time he came under fire, he ran, do you think Tommy Taliban would have done that? You could have heard a pin drop. One woman looked at me and said” are you insane? Who carries a gun in church? Well, if I went to church, I would. It’s a prime killing field, just like a school, or Walmart.
Now in full disclosure, I am not a religious man; in fact, I basically despise organized religion, seeing it as opiate for the masses. In fact, I believe the Islamic religion to be the greatest brain washing tool on earth. That said, it’s your right to believe what you want.
This morning a report on AFN stated the shooter was in the church 6 minutes. 6 minutes! For that baby beating coward to walk around shooting kids as they lay on the floor. What if some adult had even a.22 pistol and stared firing back? Do you think it would break whatever “mindset” he was in? of course.
A few rounds from an ARMED CITIZEN made him quit the fight and run. This was not a dedicated shooter, willing to die for his cause, this was a coward who could have been stopped if someone was armed inside that church. I have read most religious tomes, unless I missed it, I never once read where GOD / WHOEVER/ said, don’t protect yourself in my house of worship, just let some asshole shoot you on your knees.
Rule number two in life: you are responsible for everything in your life. My 2 cents.

I carry in church. But then again Calvinists and Presbyterians used to have all their church services with armor on and pikes in hand because they were “heretics” and knew that Catholic authorities would kill them if they caught them worshiping.

I’m actually kind of surprised it hasn’t happened at the hands of “an isis inspired” idiot yet.
I haven’t been able to attend church since shortly after 9/11. Tried a few times but just couldn’t get over the set up of the whole place, and the recurring thought “Don’t they blow up these churches/mosques/synagogues on a regular basis over there?”.
It just seems like a really bad idea.
This has certainly made me re-think my carry status while in church. Unfortunately, I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland…

I am going to start carrying in church. Actually, GA laws recently passed actually allows us licenced owner to carry in Church so it’s totally legit now. I didn’t do it because it was church, but now that it’s become a specific target why not carry? No harm, no fowl. Nobody will know unless the shit hits the fan so we’re cool.
However, we have an advantage in our church. We have a very devout, extremely large, SWAT police man that goes to mass, who is often in uniform and even when not he carries. When he’s in uniform he’s got his Kevlar on. So in case of emergency, I follow his lead.
Nicest guy in the world, but I would loath to see him on the other side of his job… He can fuck some people up…
Seems about right every 90 days…Just marking for time. Mods should change title to mass shooting thread… Noticed no posts on recent HS shooting. Likely same opinions so no need but prediction is this thread gets updated with another sad story in 90-120 days & nothing really changes by then.
Seems though like another case of a guy telecasting his weirdness and yet nobody prevented it or did anything. Had no problems getting weapons. We could say he just slipped through the cracks but by now isnt that excuse getting old? Whole lotta thoughts and prayers but that hasent done much for decades now…Id like to think we can do better but nah…

I deleted this exact response 3 or 4 times… IMO, there are usually two main groups that ardently argue their solution. One is the remove guns group. The other is arm society even more. Now, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with arguing from either perspective even though I personally lean strongly towards the latter group. However, a real conversation won’t happen. It never does and, for the most part, people will just gloss over pretty much everything else.
Just my $.02 cents.
