I am on a temporary vegan diet to allow any arterial damage to heal before a test/Ox cycle. I get my protein from pea/rice fortified with l-leucine and creatine 5 times a day between my vegan meals and calories are in the 3000+ range. Seems to work very well because All of my lifts are up 10 - 15%, my arms are a bit bigger at 17in dry, and my weight is going down slowly. What I am wondering is will this type of diet help reduce the damaging effect of the hormones on my cholesterol numbers. As a meat eater my intake of cholesterol was high but now I don’t take in any dietary cholesterol. I am trying to minimize the damage of the hormones. Any info on veganism and cycling would be very helpful.
If miniming negative impacts on your cholesterol, BP, Hormones, and heart health are that important to you then don’t cycle. That is the safest bet.
So what you are saying is that people that cycle do it with the understanding that it will be bad for their health? I disagree. I think you can cycle in a way that minimizes the damage while taking advantage of the benefits. As I have been practicing bodybuilding/powerlifting for over 30 years, I have seen 2 sides to every stone and believe in going further than the average person. As is the case in my dieting habits. If you have some info on vegan dieting, cholesterol and test cycling, please be my guest and enlighten me. If not, please save it. I’m not interested in lectures that have nothing to do with the question. Thanks
^you might wanna do some more reading about cholesterol metabolism…
and more importantly the role cholesterol has in testosterone production.
Thanks cycobushmaster, I will look into that now.
" a study published in the March 2012 issue of “Substance Abuse Treatment, Prevention and Policy” reported that a single dose of extra testosterone in male subjects caused an increase in both total cholesterol and the liver enzyme that makes cholesterol, September 2005 issue of “Clinical Endocrinology (Oxford).” So it seems that their is no getting around the increase in cholesterol if testosterone is taken. What is not clear is if the extra cholesterol does any damage by way of an increase of blood pressure, like it would if my diet was acidic, or if the added cholesterol is used up as a fuel like any fat would be, being that I don’t take in any animal fats when on the vegan diet?
ps. I am surprised in how little info is out there for vegan diet and hormone usage. Surly some people use this diet for health and the same type of people use bodybuilding for the same outcome.?
I didn’t give you a lecture I answered your question and that was it. As for your a second question you are not going to find much info on your diet and drug use as there are not many vegan athletes (compared to a more traditional diet), there are even fewer of those athletes that are trength sports athletes (powerlifting, Strongman, Bodybuilding, etc) and then even FEWER if any of those vegan strength sport athletes are using AAS.

well, you should expect an increase in exogenous testosterone to raise cholesterol, since you no longer need to use cholesterol to make testosterone.
cholesterol is the base building block for most hormones, including DHEA, etc, even your own vitamin D production.
if you supplement with testosterone, then there is that much more cholesterol floating around that is not being used.
Reed’s right. Steroids are bad for you, you just have to accept the risks.
I’d be curious to hear how you’re getting 3000 calories a day on a vegan diet?

I was just curious as to how the dude’s diet looked. I realise that obviously it can be done
No way I could be a vegan. I ate a vegetable once but, she was so quiet the whole time. Just not into that I guess.

I properly loled at that
My fault Reed, No harm meant. I get cranky when not eating meat. Calories are easy to get in, I take in oils in the form of coconut, palm, olive and canola ( and fish oil that is not vegan but is good for you so fuck it ) Along with rice, avocado, oats, potato. beans… It’s not as bad as you would think if you put the right spices together. And yes I love meat too but this is for the arteries, it’s worth a few months a year of this diet to keep them open. I thank everyone for the reply’s. I plan on starting a cycle after Christmas, I will post my results when finished.
I do see some logic in this for when you are on cycle. Cholesterol is no longer being used for the bodies natural production of testosterone, so cholesterol levels will go up. So keep them low by watching your diet. But you will need cholesterol again for when you come off the gear.
dude, red meat isn’t bad for your arteries. Your basing your diet on info that is waaaaaaay out of date

I can’t stand hearing these myths. Dietary cholesterol has little if any impact on blood cholesterol in most people

it’s fucked up how pervasive the misinformation is! Even doctors still believe it in most cases
dude, there are so many fucking stupid ass doctors out there, I had no idea, it really is insane, not saying i know more than them, but the least they could do is study some fucking updated information. sigh
