Varicocele and Testosterone

As I’ve been fooling with my hormones mine has been going away…I suspect its just a hypothyroid issue.

I have a varicocele in my left testicle too. From what I have read the overwhealming majority are in the left. Weird huh? As far as test levels are concerned my doctor seems to think it doesn’t affect test at all. I was worried so I had my test levels checked and they were normal for my age. I have had the varicocele for about 15 years and hardly notice it. My left testicle is a bit smaller than my right though. I have been told this is due to the heat caused by all the extra blood around the testicle but I would also assume it’s a blood supply issue. I have considered surgery but since there is a small risk of losing the testicle all together I figure if it doesn’t hurt and it’s not affecting my test levels then I will leave it for now.[/quote]

Hmmmm. Well I have my appointment with the Urologist tomorrow and I’ll find out my test levels and see if surgery is worth it. I’ve heard the surgery is relatively low risk, never heard anywhere you could lose a testicle.

Also, my left one is smaller than my right as well. Wouldn’t common sense dictate then that the left is producing less testosterone than the right? I’d rather just get it removed than risk faulty blood flow and disrupted hormones.

Also, how well do you grow facial hair?

Everyone has one larger testicle and one smaller one.

I had a varicocele at 15 and was operated on. At the time they did it by making an incision in the abdomen, which hurt like all getout for a month after. Years later it returned and the urologist said it wasn’t worth operating as the pain often goes away on its own. It was sore for a few months and then the pain went away. My testosterone levels were pretty good when I had them tested after, even without any operation.

I had a very large (grade 3) vericocele on my left as well (there is actually a reason for this, vein paths and such) like most others. I had surgery about 4 weeks ago via an open subingunial procedure, it was too large for a laprascopic surgery.

My testicles seemed fine beforehand, size was the same, no hard feeling lumps or anything other than the “ball of worms” feeling mass. Post surgery I have had lots of swelling all the way up my inguinal canal to the surgery site as the veins have not had proper time to drain and reestablish new paths of blood flow. I had my T levels checked and was about 420, but have gained almost 10lbs since the surgery (note: no physical activity AT ALL) due to just increased appetite. I didn’t break 140lbs until I was 18 and was an avid athlete.

I have a T test in 2 weeks and will report the results, if any. I feel better, no more “kicked in the balls” feeling after a set of squats. Apparently there is no increased risk of hernia with the open incision either, so I am going to start back up my stronglifts routine where I was a few years ago and work back up to before strength.

My advice to anyone with this condition…

If you are young and on your parents insurance, go ahead and say “it feels like someone kicked me in the groin” and get the surgery done, my copay was only about 300 dollars US. To anyone who is older and has lived with it, it’s absolutely necessary if it starts causing you pain or things start changing shape. My father has had one his entire life and says it never bothered him once, I am 24 and it didn’t bother me for 10 years, but when it did it was sudden and severe, get it checked out. The testicles aren’t something to play with!

Intense first post but I felt compelled to share. Will update!

Hey man I have the same problem , I was wondering if a testosterone booster(jym alpha jym) will help with this problem. I just want to be big and strong. I feel like I’m behind my piers because of this problem and im dedicated to gym and see litte differences and my buddy’s are just naturally stronger because they hardly work out. All in all I was wondering if I should take jym alpha jym to help me reach my personal body goals

I don’t know if you are aware but, a varicocele can also cause an enlarged prostate because of testosterone flowing back into it. This can eventually cause cancer! I’m having mine embolised soon.

Wow, amazing how common this is in the left nut! I have it too and am due to undergo embolisation later in the year. My T levels and sperm were checked and although my T levels were normal my sperm motility was not. It’s hope the procedure will address this. By coincidence, the radiologist who performed the scan explained he had the same procedure after discovering he had a low sperm count and couldn’t start a family. Now he’s a father of three, so it seems to work for some! Good luck to all in the same boat.

I would also recommend that people verify low t with blood work, not just assume that because you have a V in the left T= low test. I know a few of you have done blood work but that may not be the underlying cause. In my case, I have issues with both but my latest lab work showed my T levels was 1429. Definitely lead with bloodwork and don’t assume just because other cats online say they have a bum blood vessel and that’s the answer.
