This is almost 100% attributed to Covid. People had more options than ever to early vote in person, mail in, etc.
It’s not like Trump was significantly more popular than he was in 2016 either. And his vote totals shot way up.
This is only “surprising” because it’s the first time it had happened. Obama in 08 would likely have crushed the total Biden got if he had the same conditions. Hell Trump 2016 might have had more votes than Trump 2020 in the same conditions.

The Korean elections resulted in a landslide for the incumbent government because they handled the COVID situation well at the time.
The election in Singapore led to the Ruling Party getting their worst results in their entire history with a loss of 10 points because they fucked up in their response to the virus. And this party had been in power for 55 YEARS.
Why is it any surprise that Trump lost just from his response to the virus alone? With the benefit of hindsight and the stats we now have such as voting demographics, I’m not even bothering to take his lacklustre campaign into consideration here.

Besides you should really be paying attention to what these people say in court. Notice Rudy’s press conference today talking about fraud? Compare that with what he said in front of a judge Tuesday. Even as insane as Rudy is he knows the difference in flailing like a maniac on TV and lying in court.
Trump’s a cry baby narcissist and it will make him feel better if he can say it was stolen. That’s why he said it months before the election.
More importantly he can grift his followers and remain popular with them politically. A one term loser might get kicked to the curb and people move on. But a one term President who can convince his followers who haven’t needed evidence to believe all sorts of things has got something.
He’s got power and the ability to continue the grift for years and it keeps his supporters worshipping him which he loves.
He would be doing this even if he lost every state. The margin isn’t important. The message “I’m a winner who doesn’t lose” is what needs protected.
It’s why he started protecting it just in case he lost.

Right now the “broken system” he is trying to fix is people having a right to choose their leaders by voting.
