U.S. Hegemony on the Decline

I’m in no way justifying slavery, but those pictures are where the descendants of the slaves WOULD have been living now if not for slavery. The descendants of slaves are better off because their ancestors were enslaved.

He didn’t even get the fraction correct.

*3/5, not 2/3.

Not a police state (yet). Flawed democracy? Yes

“But unreal! What countries represent the epitome of democracy?”

  • denmark
  • norway
  • netherlands

Etc.

As you and I are young… We are also more likely to lash out.

If you can formulate your responses in a less pugnacious manner you’ll probably find many are willing to engage in serious discourse.

I live in NZ but personally would rather live in the US. THB the whole western world is a mess. My personal opinion is that everyone has lived to easily for too long and lost sight of what really matters, poverty, starvation, general caring for fellow humans, instead becoming selfish as hell. Not that I’m saying I’m any better or got my facts right, just looking all all the empires that have crumbled in the past, its almost always been from internal weakness of different sorts brought on by success and a general easing of peoples lifestyles. Again not saying I’m 100% correct but history always repeats itself and we never learn from the past.

Why?

You are 100% correct actually.

Good question. NZ is full of jumped-up woke, arrogant snobs who think they are God’s gift to the world just because they live in a nuclear free country with no spending on critical infrastructure . The news portrays a lot of good images about the country, but as someone who lives in a smaller town, I constantly see how abandoned by the government anyone out of the cities has found themselves. I’m the sales manager for a business in the far north of NZ, and never once in the last two years have I spoken to someone who has a good thing to say about our current affairs. Farmers are the easiest example of people being screwed over. The average farmer is both incredibly concerned about the welfare of their animals and the state of the land, yet they are the ones that the government have chosen to make scapegoats for both animal welfare and climate issues. This isn’t hot air, I’m currently seeing friends and family slowly go broke as restrictions increase, yet they are some of the most conscientious people in regards to the issues above. Unfortunately its making radicals out of what were once reasonable people who cared and it worries the shit out of me. Seems to be happening in every country around the world with no one better than another and no real solution.
If it wasn’t for my family, I’d be tucked away in some corner of Alaska, as hairy and as dirty as hell and probably wearing an armadillo hat.

You know the US is ground zero for wokeness, right? @Snapped

Haha good point! Siberia it is then…

I don’t think there are any armadillos is Alaska - maybe muskrat….

Just busting your chops.

My wife and I are actually looking to emigrate somewhere and New Zealand is on the short list but your post will have me looking into some more things.

To be fair, those documentary shows on the people of Alaska make it seem that wokeness is the farthest thing from their minds. You know with having to hunt game 5 months of the year to make it through the other 7.

I have recently wondered what country I could move to in the future but the entire Anglosphere seems to be suffering from Stage IV mind rot, making their problems unfixable without harsh measures.

What is the violent-crime rate in NZ? Are you aware of America’s high amount of violence?

I guess I could always make a hat out of tinfoil…
NZ is a beautiful country, and tbh the small towns are pretty friendly, same as most places in the world I would say.
Again like any place tho, we have our issues eg, some of the worst roading in the world and a surprising lack of funding for schools and hospitals. On a positive note our crime rate is increasing frigging rapidly if you wanna earn your $ as a cop. Not quite as many shootouts as America but we are working on increasing those too

Completely agree mate.

Yep, NZ news seem to love stating how amazing we are here compared to America but violent crime rates are on a massive increase here. Biggest difference I can see is if you defend yourself here, your more likely to go to jail than the offender

Uh, that’s actually the case in New York. So I pretty much have a gun for no reason. :grinning:

This follows if what you say about slowly bleeding good people financially dry is happening.

There are other more promising options as NZ is not known to be an engineering hot spot (my career is what gives me the “score” to emigrate most places).
Sweden, Norway, Germany, Denmark, and Iceland, Canada (mostly for ease of travel to see family) are all on the list too.

If only they could be so lucky.

It’s hard to have a discussion if a simple exchange is too much for you to follow.

Don’t need help, I have a job.

You obviously never had any joy in holding a job. There’s something to be said about being competent and skillful at what you do and cultivating friendships with your coworkers / employers / employees.

Also, the sense of accomplishment.
Something a Civil Engineer feels when he looks at building for which his structural calculus allows it to stand; or a stonemason when he walks in a granite city street and looks down to contemplate his work.

I know you think you’re smarter than everyone else.
But I’ve never agreed with those who claim that “good thing about stupid people is they don’t know they’re stupid”.

Some people are aware of their shortcomings, which causes them to work harder and have enough humility to listen to others.

You’re just angry and frustrated at the world because you don’t have a job, a woman, or kids.

Perhaps some humility would change your life for the better.

Also, the irony of a guy who rails against capitalism but fancies himself a “currency trader” isn’t lost on me.
