pimpbot,
Are you planning to go back to Japan anytime in the near future?
Did you have any trouble leaving Japan?
pimpbot,

Did you have any trouble leaving Japan?

I found this today, and thought it was interesting…
Even with all the stuff going on in Japan, they managed to fix streets and highways within a period of only 6 days. 6 DAYS !!! How many of you have waited weeks or months to see repairs made to our streets and highways, and we haven’t even had a fucking tsunami ! That is some efficiency.
If any of you are looking for a place to donate to help in the relief efforts, there’s a group that I donated to. They’re personal friends of mine and they got a team together and rented some trucks and are trucking in donated and bought goods to the hardest hit areas and towns who’s entire population is living in a highschool gym and lack even the most basic of supplies like underwear, toothbrushes, food and drinking water. Their Facebook page chronicles their gathering of donated supplies and their trips into the disaster zone. They’ve already made 2 trips with 2 ton trucks loaded with supplies. I understand if you want to go with a more well known place like the Red Cross. These guys are a grass-roots team with no government help or funding but I know them and can vouch for their authenticity.
Here’s their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/OGAFORAID
Donations can be made via paypal. Instructions can be found on their Facebook page. But if you feel like donating even a little, but don’t feel comfortable with helping these guys, please go with one of the bigger places like the Red Cross, either way every little bit helps.

Heh, it’s not exactly the norm, let me tell you, but hat’s off!
Let’s not post any more videos like that last one, please? I’ve about had my fill of watching individual stories where someone is looking for his wife, her little daughter, his parents, whoever, through that burnt out obliterated wasteland. Watching an obviously terrified dog not make it is just too much.

Hey, we don’t know for sure that the lil’ guy didn’t make it. Dogs are great swimmers. With that effort it put out to stay dry, think of how much more effort it would put in to stay alive?

That’s a nice optimistic thought, PHD, but my guess is what with the force of that water, the dog most likely suffered blunt force trauma to the head when objects in that liquid violence slammed into him. I’d like to think he didn’t suffer.

I understand your point of view. But in the future you could just not watch them yourself.
The videos/stories that come out of this disasters (positive or negative) are quite compelling to most of us in this thread.

Heh. Sorry about that. I heard the reports say that the autopsies showed that most of the human victims died of blunt force trauma (not drowning), so I assumed the doggy would have as well. I mean there was SO much shit in that water.
Dammit… I went back to add an edit before you replied, and it even showed up, but now it’s gone. It basically said that even if he survived the waves and violent motion of objects, how long could a dog survive in the frigid winter water?
Oh, and Santa is a fiction.

Those guys have been helping out since day one. They were quicker on the draw than the government. They were also seen directing traffic immediately after the quake knocked out the electricity. They have a history of helping out during crises. They were one of the first on the scene during the Kobe quake too. They want to create an image of themselves as being generous to the people. Whatever their motives are, I’m glad they’re helping out too.
here’s some badassery to deflect some of the sad: http://badassoftheweek.com/akaiwa.html

Yeah, I heard this story last week. Love the way it’s retold here. Very colorful.
Holy fuck another earthquake measuring 7.4 near northern Japan
Apparently there’s a warning for another tsunami for the Miyagi prefecture
