Well it’s official. We have a President who truly has no regard for the law. Goddamn the balls on the dude to say I don’t mind if you break the law I’ll pardon you is crazy. Trump truly doesn’t give a fuck. He just knows things are in the way of something he wants and he knows he has always been powerful enough to make those disappear.
This is key. Warren speaks Heartland populism better than anyone. There are lots of Trump voters in this space that were hold-their-nose-and-pull-the-lever-for-Trump voters, not frothing at the mouth MAGA-ites. For them, they don’t have blind loyalty, and now they will view Trump through the lens of an incredibly clumsy and dumb trade war that has been a gut punch to the Heartland.
“incredibly clumsy and dumb trade war that has been a gut punch to the Heartland.”
What about the trade war is
- clumsy
- dumb
- a gut punch to the Heartland
“We have a President who truly has no regard for the law. Goddamn the balls on the dude to say I don’t mind if you break the law I’ll pardon you is crazy. Trump truly doesn’t give a fuck.”
Genuine question - do you actually believe anything you wrote in this quote or are you merely posturing?
First…I would like to thank everyone for my appointment as President of the “Always Wrong” Coalition! I promise to wrongly predict the Presidential Election in 2020 and for years to come! Thank you! (lol!)
Great discussion, guys! (As always!).
I really thought that after the “Native American” issue…and what appeared to be Warren’s using of her “minority” status…that she would be toast on the National Stage.
Question…do you think she (Warren) would be nearly as strong in the Polls if she had the potential to run against anyone else but Trump? It seems like for the DEMS, “anybody but Trump” will garner a fair number of votes. (I know it’s a hypothetical…but it seems to me that Trump changes the “calculus” of so many things).
I also think that as opposed to any election in recent history…turnout on both sides will be a major deciding factor. I think that it’s going to be a downright crazy few months leading up to the 2020 election.
Clumsy - policy is being made on Twitter ad hoc, no strategy, no coherence.
Dumb - it’s tit for tat, and it’s being played out like a bad reality show in public, wreaking havoc in business boardrooms.
Gut punch - US agriculture is getting killed by the shutting off of export markets.
It’s not even just them anymore. The steel industry is buckling hard too. Lots of people have heard about the US Steel layoffs in the news. I’ve heard they have also DRASTICALLY cut back on their contingent hiring in the past 12-16 mos. So much so, that some staffing companies are having to cut people.
Great point, and agree 100%. Business investment continues to halt in all kinds of sectors, not just the ones with China for supply chains or consumer markets.
Good thing he’s a businessman, though.
“policy is being made on Twitter ad hoc, no strategy, no coherence.”
Honestly, do you REALLY believe this?
What I find so difficult around Trump is this kind of very extreme cartoon reference.
Or other posters saying he “truly has no regard for the law.” Or “I don’t mind if you break the law, I’ll pardon you.”
It seems insane to me that people genuinely believe these things. And I just always presume they can’t actually mean them, but then maybe they TRULY do?
I mean “wreaking havoc in business boardrooms” what does that even mean?
Not sure why I would be posturing. The President is saying it’s fine to break the law and if you get in trouble I’ll get you out of it.
I linked the article where it came from I didn’t pull it out of my ass. He’s denying it of course but he’s a compulsive liar and the fact is this would surprise no one.
Of course I do, and it’s obvious - there’s no serious calculation on the part of Trump, which is why his staff is left scrambling to deal with his random and reactionary Twitter posts.
That’s entirely believable. Given his track record of disdain on the rule of law, there’d no reason to disbelieve it.
It means business leaders have no clue what is going to happen next so business investment is in the toilet. Are tariffs on? Off? Going up 10%? Are new categories of goods in my supply chain going to be taxed tomorrow? Imagine you’re a business leader - how do you make meaningful strategic plans in the trade environment Trump has created with China?
At one point will CB mention the Jews? Because you all should know, it’s coming.
I meant posturing in a faux outrage sense, that it is rare for anyone to avoid when speaking about him.
He is clearly a cartoonish person.
However, do you honestly believe the quote you linked is true? Or as you also said he “truly has no regard for the law”?
He is already an exaggerated character as it is, I just don’t see the necessity in increasing this to an ever more unbelievable extent. You would think all this would have abated somewhat by now seeing as he has been a public figure for decades and the President for years, that’s all.
Trump has ignored the law to send resources to Saudi Arabia and ignored the law to proclaim a false emergency in order to fund the border wall when Congress would not.
Why don’t you tell us why you think Trump is so faithful to the rule of law?
Ask people in New Jersey about Trump and eminent domain.
The you have his support for stop and frisk even though it was judged unconstitutional.
Yes on both. He has a history of not caring about the law (see the link I just posted).
We’re just supposed to ignore the fact he’s an idiot and accept it? Not discuss it?
I like that the new position is becoming “we get it, he’s the fuckin worst. Let it go”
Drat.

Honestly, being bled white by Afghani goat herders must be a right of passage for Empires at this point
Imagine if Obama were trying to secure a peace deal with the Taliban.
