I stated if executive (read doj) were trying the same oversight to congress, every liberal would claim trump is stalin 2.0 eliminating opponents and setting up dictatorship.
Does the executive branch have authority to perform individual oversight on Congress?
I mean I know Congress absolutely has that power over the executive, but I wasn’t aware it’d be legal for Trump to even do that
DOJ can investigate members of Congress for wrongdoing pursuant to its powers under law. And they indict (or not) based on what they find.
Not really - it can investigate members for lawbreaking pursuant to its charge to execute and enforce the laws.
It’s very broad, but it’s presumably not absolute, presumably there is a boundary - there has to be a legitimate legislative purpose. But re: Trump investigating Congress generally - there’d have to be some specific thing alleged that violates the law (like bribery) of a member or group of members. If he wants to generally “investigate” Congress - he can go sit in on committee hearings or attend floor sessions.

Nope. I want a law that mandates all three branches to hand over and publish their returns annually.
In this specific instance I want Trump to appeal if he can, and if he can’t to turn over his returns when he inevitably loses.
But just like the Logan act stuff they’re going for obscure rules that have never truly been enforced before. I’d prefer they get him on something real. Ya know, like actual corruption.

Also, while we’re on this. What in the actual fuck does contempt of Congress actually mean? Has anyone ever actually been jailed or fined? I know Congress can refer someone to law enforcement. But they’re pretty toothless otherwise.
Is there a particular reason you’d want to not know personally? Given your belief that he’s a crook, I feel like that should be a sure thing

While getting his taxes is obviously a massive political hit, they aren’t “getting him” with this. They’re doing the digging with the goal to get him on the thing you want them to get him on.
It’s just toothless against the executive branch. Considering they’re the ones that would be called in to provide said teeth. That’s why it’s such a stupid thing for the Dems to yell about.

No defense of Manafort can be offered, he is radioactive. I think his rise and fall came from Kushner. But I believe that he and other family members should not be allowed in the administration, in any formal position.

Now, if only there was some massive infrastructure project in the US that could be used to syphon off bilions for friends and family members…

Trump doesn’t really give a fuck just like he doesn’t really want to build a wall. It plays well to his voters and he wants to run on the issue in 2020. That’s why he didn’t fight harder when they had full control.
We elected a President who “hates” illegals but had no problem with them working for him. A person who wants items built in America but didn’t have his own products built here. Damn we are stupid.

The beauty of the report is it shows Russia messed with the election. It caught a lot of criminal activity surrounding Trump. And it’s just ambiguous enough in certain areas that both sides get to say “look what it says!”
It’s pretty much the perfect thing for the state of our politics. And of course I mean that in the way that says we all suck and we deserve every bit of this suckiness because we put these people in power over and over again.
