FDR used the “Social Media” of the time…radio… to strengthen and reassure a Nation…and yes…explain his policies.
" …On radio, he was able to quell rumors and explain his policies. His tone and demeanor communicated self-assurance during times of despair and uncertainty. Roosevelt was a great communicator on radio, and the “Fireside Chats” kept him in high public regard throughout his presidency…"
For me; it isn’t that Trump uses the “Media of the Day”…its what he uses it for…as a tool to disparage, criticize and spit out his vitriol to anyone who doesn’t agree with him…including hard working public servants.
Ironically; the only person who seems to get a pass is Putin.
If he keeps it up, its going to bite him in the ass.
My prediction is that Trump’s biggest legacy will be to destroy not only the absurd mindset of PC, but also the legal steps that were beginning to appear to enforce its dictates on the society. Of course, in his bombastic methods, manners will probably disappear too.
I’ll believe that when I see it. The Tesla S, for instance, had a 60kWh battery for the smaller option. To charge that in 10 minutes on a 240V service with 100% efficiency you need an astronomical 1500Amps coming into the system.
The battery in that car is 375VDC, which would mean that your charging current going into the battery would be just shy of 1000A. The charging cable would need to be over an inch in diameter of solid copper. If your charging circuit had an end to end efficiency of 90%, which for an AC to DC boost circuit is quite good, your charger would generate 36kWh of waste heat in just under 10 minutes. You’re talking about huge fans and massive heatsinks.
And those are just the problems presented by electronics of that size. Batteries generally don’t respond well to charging in less than an hour. The ability to charge in 10 minutes would represent a huge improvement in
battery technology.
It sounds like a great idea, but the infrastructure required would actually be huge. And the battery technology is not ready for prime time.
Yep, no way a FLOTUS should be caught having fun shooting a commercial about her government sponsored program focused on physical activity by pretending to dunk a miniature basketball in a miniature hoop “over” guys that just won the NBA Championship and took a trip to The White House.
That sort of advertising is very undignified, she should have done an infomercial.
I don’t want to hijack this thread on this issue, but when asked what the power output of the new supercharger will be, he said 350kW would be a child’s toy. Also, there is a guy here who put 200k miles on his Tesla using nothing but supercharger, and battery degraded by 6% (about 15 miles of range).
More and more information is starting to come to light.
Trump and the Auto Industry appear to be at “Ground Zero” of the PR battle of sending Jobs to Mexico…and they will do (and say) whatever it takes to get the future POTUS off their backs. Reports are that they are more than happy to give the future POTUS “credit” for “saving” jobs.
As it relates to this last issue with Ford:
Small car production, such as the compact Focus model, will still move to Mexico, just into an existing Ford plant in Hermosillo.
“…While Ford will use some of the savings from the planned Mexican plant to expand its factory in Flat Rock, Michigan… that project appears likely to have happened anyway. The maker’s new body shop and expanded assembly line will handle production of two new battery-based models that were not expected to be built in Mexico, anyway…” Reuters
Yes. Everything else is pretty much populist PR. His subjects - I mean “voters” - have been wronged (a plant is being relocated overseas, salaries are behind, whatever…) and the Omnipotent Friend of The Common Man swoops in personally and saves the day - scolds the offenders on state television (or calls them out on Twitter), forces them to make amends (which they were going to do anyway) and takes credit for helping his subj… I mean “voters”.
The offenders are actually business partners of the Great Leader and they realize they have to play the bad guy in the Leader’s narrative from time to time and for that they’re richly compensated.
Change the actors and the medium of communication and you’d get Trump.
If you want to see how the next four years are going to look like, look into Russia…
Last Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to the town of Pikalyovo, where two days prior several hundred people blocked a federal highway for six hours to protest job cuts and unpaid wages. The purpose of his visit, however, was not to scold those who took to the streets, but to get the town’s sole factory – which had recently stopped production – running again.
In what sounds like a publicity stunt, Putin chastised Oleg Deripaska, a metals tycoon who used to be Russia’s wealthiest man, and the two other businessmen who jointly own the factory at a meeting that was broadcast on national television.
“You have made thousands of people hostage to your ambitions, your lack of professionalism — or maybe simply your trivial greed. Thousands of people. It’s totally unacceptable,” Putin angrily said during the meeting.
