Trump: The First 100 Days

I am a cynic, and expect the worst from politicians as a baseline. But the extent of the Hilary/Clinton corruption was breathtaking even in that context.

I have my eyes closed and my fingers crossed for the next 4 years of Trump. I have no idea how his appointees will work out. But I am impressed that neither that fat fcuk Christie nor that 9/11, 9/11 all day nutjob Giuliani have a place in Trump’s administration. And I was impressed (nay, astounded) at Trump actually reaching out to Romney.

So, who knows?

Budding demagogue or great orator?

One thing is for sure- Zeb and Eye Dentist are going to have different answers.

I have seen chatter that an NSA insider leaked the Podesta emails, because of what the DNC was trying to do with rigging the primary.

@SkyzykS: the issue has kinda moved past but I didn’t want you to think I’d missed your reply re: the F-35 / F-18 tweet. Good points, wanted to give you a shout for that.

I think people need to give this a read.

You nailed it with this post!

Gov’t: keep pouring money at it, we can’t afford to pull out now that we’ve already spent so much, and we can’t admit we made a mistake in the first place.

Business: cut your losses, don’t throw good money after bad or you’ll go bankrupt, or accumulate soul-crushing debt -wait, that’s how the gov’t works!

Demagoguery is a function of how one presents themselves.

Let’s see…Off the top of my head we have:
“Build the wall! Build the wall! Build the wall!”
“Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!”
“Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp!”

Can you come up with similar angry chants that made regular appearances at Obama rallies in '08 or 2012?

Trump is the epitome of a demagogue, which is “a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument.” In the course of his campaign, Trump demagogued (again, off the top of my head):
Mexicans
Muslims
Wall Street
The media
HRC
‘The system’
Free-trade agreements
Washington insiders (professional pols, lobbyists, etc)
China
PC culture
AGW

Dog-whistling isn’t necessary when one feels free to call the dog by its name.

It seems that the same malware was used to infect the target calculation application for Ukrainian D-30 howitzers and relay their positions. It seems that the Russian counter battery fire was unusually accurate - further analysis discovered the malware on the targeting software.

But as the President-elect says “it could be China, it could be random some guy”

Obama a demagogue? Not really, he certainly engaged in demagoguery, but wasn’t really a demagogue at his core.

Trump? The very definition of one.

Sour grapes make sour whine.

Can we drain the swamp “Yes We Can!”

Can we control our borders and enforce the immigration laws THAT ARE ALREADY WRITTEN? “Yes We Can!”

Can we admit that Hillary was a massive sleazebag in virtually innumerable ways? “Yes We Can!”

Can we find a video on youtube that exemplifies the people I stated he “demagogued” to in your original question to me?

Yes We Can!

A couple of problems here.

  1. Who or what, exactly, is being demagogued by the phrase “Yes We Can”?
  2. “Yes We Can” was always presented in an uplifting fashion; it was never chanted in anger a la ‘lock her up’ or ‘build the wall.’

Its an accusation of demagoguery. It doesn’t have to be true.

I mean, if getting people to chant something constitutes an act of demagoguery, then there you have it.

Campaign slogans are now demagoguery.

Then you want to introduce a bunch of utterly subjective criteria like tenor or whether or not something is uplifting! Why don’t you just run around with the goal post for a while and let us know when you feel like setting at down somewhere?:grinning:

Lock her up was easily as uplifting to me as anything could be. Fair application of justice for all…

Except the super rich and well connected.

Don’t like the ‘tenor’ aspect? OK, set it aside.

Now all you need do is explain who/what specifically is being demagogued by the chant “Yes We Can.”

Oh, but you see, I don’t. Because now accusations are foregone conclusions. Its all about the feels.

Right?

The funny part of this is that you were the one to level the accusation. Where is your objective and specific proof?

Well, you’re the one advancing the argument that Obama and Trump were (summarizing here) equivalent on the demagoguery issue, and offered “Yes We Can” as an example of demagogic chanting at Obama campaign rallies. If you can’t/won’t make a convincing argument re who/what is the object of the demagoguery you claim adheres to the chant, it seems to me your argument takes a pretty serious hit.

I outlined Trump’s demagoguery above via 1) a list of the who/whats of his demagogic ‘ire,’ and 2) demonstrated how he whipped his audiences into a fury via several demagogic chants. I’d say that’s as close to ‘proof’ as one can get when discussing a subject such as this. So if after reflecting on the totality of Trump’s campaign, you choose to deny that he ran as a demagogue, all I can do is shrug my shoulders and say ‘OK.’

Not denying it. Just doesn’t pass the smell test for irrefutable proof to me.
I say that mostly from CIA not confirming, but perhaps they never will.

It is the sloppiness of Russia that puzzles me.

You are correct, just not in the way you intended. Demagoguery is indeed about nothing but “the feels.”

Here’s another one for you- by the standards of Soviet/Russian official vocabulary, this statement by Putin during his yearly press conference is an open admission.

This is just getting better and better. The rapefugee scam the UN continues to push will hopefully come to an end at least in the US.
