Well, everyone of the alphabet agencies, including mine, are having more “intelligence briefings” than ever before. General reaction from the Afghan unit I am involved with has been overall positive. Not to sound like an asshole, but, I cannot give out much on this one, because, our brothers over at Meade are really watching this one. I suspect the media will ferret out some source and the stats will come out. Once that happens, I can let you know what I know about the event.
Still trying to wrap my mind around Trump’s issue with H1Bs. I’m going to have to get used to a GOP POTUS being so anti-freemarket.
Personally I’m on board with forcing companies to hire Americans, just not used to this change of pace yet.
Actually that is pretty funny. Though not quite as funny as John Kerry the feckless former Secretary of State giving in to two bit Dictators all over the world. His greatest loss against the Iran regime. Ah the days of bowing and kowtowing to the scum of the earth is over.
May God Bless Mike Pence…Oops I don’t want to offend any left wingers May the “Universe” Bless Mike Pence.
Relax Zeb. I just ran across it and thought it was funny.
Did I not say:
“Actually that is pretty funny”
A huge part of this importing workers (highly skilled, lm saying) ramped up in Reagan/Bush time frame. It isn’t a traditionally conservative move to replace your educated workforce by exporting every technical manufacturing job and importing workers so your STEM grads can be insurance salesmen and retail clerks.
I guarantee you most of the ‘conservatives’ on this board do not understand that. The 27 year olds who don’t know better trumpet the Economic theory they have heard their whole life, but the 50+ crowd really should know better.
And to combat the larger pie theorists in advance, let me offer an economic elephant in the room - $20Trillion national debt and $13 TT personal debt on top of that.Of course, l would be remiss to not mention 1/7 of the US is on food stamps.
Didn’t Trump campaign on “putting America first”?
Well…he’s doing it.
And I don’t have to agree with 100% of everything that he does, or says, to know that he is still better than Hillary for the job.
One always has to keep in mind the choice that we had…
It only applies in a free market. America isn’t a free market
I fully understand the pros and cons, was merely commenting on the party that historically told the govt to stop giving companies orders, and is now giving companies orders. Couple with the fact that Dems also want to give companies orders and they might actually start agreeing on something.
Thanks idaho. Keep your head down out there and watch your six!
I am not on board with forcing companies to hire Americans. I am on board with discouraging outsourcing. The two are not the same.
Maybe “forcing” was a strong word. More like “incentivized.” However it’s good to remember in the setting of a publicly traded company, forced and incentivized aren’t very different.
Edit: Also, incentivizing any company in any way is the opposite of free market, which leads back to my puzzlement that the GOP seems to be so on board with this.
It’s sounds to me to be a stop gap measure. We’re not importing the best and brightest to fill job no one else will do. We’re hiring cheap labor at the expense of quality fill jobs with barely qualified but dirt cheap workers to work in essentially high tech sweatshops.
Basically equivalent to putting one’s finger in the dike (not a lesbian joke), until unfair trade deals and meaningful immigration reform can be done legislatively.
The nice things about Executive Orders is they are easily removed. Once something is law, it takes an act of congress…
Agreed, which is why I’m on board with the EO. But it’s undeniably a move AGAINST free market. Something I didn’t expect out of the GOP in my lifetime.
I think incentivizeing is fine because if your free will is still in tact if you have strong convictions about something or someone. Incentivizing is done all the time when a government wants to move business or people in a certain direction. As in obama incentivising with tax breaks and actual capitol to move energy to more green sources. Or giving people big tax breaks on buying those eletro-hybrid-roller-skate-cars instead of relying on the mighty V8 for getting you down the road…
Also great things (imo). Mainly because true free market economies aren’t sustainable. I see incentives as the lesser of 2 evils in the world personally. An opinion I’ve never shared with the GOP until now lol
Oh my gosh what a horrible thing to report. I am aghast at this!!
Oh okay well at least it’s been corrected. Phew…I was unable to eat my lunch.
“The Carl Vinson is now on a northerly course for the Korean Peninsula and is expected to arrive in the region sometime next week, Defense Department officials said.”
