Trump/Paul and the First Amendment

People remember 9/11/2001 more than they remember 2008. Nothing had a bigger impact on our lives than 9/11.

And if they aren’t mouth breathing neanderthals they know it was a bunch of Saudis that we never actually stood up to.

Best case he’s the president that let 9/11 happen. Great legacy lol

On balance, was forcing Saddam out of power a good thing?

Probably not for the American soldiers that had to die making it happen.

But hey, I’m sure all the people who supported the invasion showed up at their local station to enlist.

Nor to the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who died. Not to mention the resulting regional power imbalance that led to the ascendency of Iran, which has in turn led to increased militancy on the part of the Arabs.

He was a non-person during the 2008 election campaigns. He is one big reason Obama won.

And Mission Accomplished followed by body bags.

Shifting goal posts.

Of course. It’s not like the military had to come up with all sorts of waivers to address the demand for troops.

Eh, I don’t take up an apprenticeship if I need plumbing work. I just ask for someone else to do the work.

The benefits aren’t THAT attractive. GI bill or not.

Not that they would take me. One of the few benefits of having medical issues (no, not bone spurs). Nobody seems keen on sending me off to die for their cause. .

Yup, getting rid of a murderous dictator is a good thing. Getting rid of all of them is the issue…

While I understand what you’re getting at, you’re not typically asking your plumber to risk never seeing his family again.

That being said, I don’t know what your plumbing looks like, so maybe you do lol

Without said medical problems would you have enlisted when Afghanistan started?

Heck no, then they would have taken me!

Then I take it you didn’t feel the fight in the ME was important enough to sacrifice American lives?

I don’t think it was important enough to sacrifice my life. The folks who signed up previously and at the time will have to speak for themselves.

But seriously, back when the Taliban harbored Osama, fine. He’s dead.

Back when we knew exactly where to find the operational WMD programs, fine. Now I’m pissed that Bush and his administration oversold intelligence, having stripped the caveats out of it.

Who do we look to as the moral authority for deciding who is a murderer and who is acting lawfully?

Were you in support of America invading the ME?

Yessir.

“Were” being important here. I will never support anything like that again. I will always assume intelligence has been fluffed up, and that it’ll turn into nation-building.

And I would never die for a country. Maybe for the GI bill, back when I was a poor little Fl cracker right out of high school. Maybe the benefits would’ve been worth the risk. But, again, medical issues.

Family and in actual defense of the innocent? I’d like to think so. But, luckily for any relatives, they haven’t had to rely on my bravery.

I believe/believed sacrificing your life to protect your country is a worthy price to pay but the problem is putting your life in the hands of those who are not willing to do the same.

And hey, I don’t do my own logging though I use wood-based products!

Further, sacrificing my life for a country isn’t even my main objection. It is the taking of other lives for my country that I find most objectionable.
