Trump Cabinet Predictions / Suggestions

Didn’t seem to hurt Obama when he made the same choices effectively…

I doubt it hurts him much. It’s just more of the same really.

Sure, but I’m not going to get all histrionic about it, nor bury my head in the sand and act like this is a first for either country.

Hence the grain of salt here…

Unless somehow, Trump is both a moron and master Russian spy, lmao.

Both suck, a lot. Not a fan in the slightest.

Miserable optics on this pick, just miserable. JFC

Basically why Trump won, and the press is doubling down…

Hilarious.

I think the ire might be on the whole “wtf guys, did Obama get this much shit when the Black Panthers and JW were all happy about his win? No. Now shut the fuck up I’m not responsible for anyone but myself.”

Very smart dude, miserable personal life. Ehh, we’re all human, but not a fan of people cheating on their wives and husbands.

Milo cracks me up and I appreciate the culture war he’s fighting. That said, he doesn’t look into the camera enough, and he’d have to tone down a bit and be professional. Plus he’d have to lie and spin his ass off. If he has near the integrity I think he does, he’d be sick of that in about 6 weeks and go back on the bus.

If you’re expecting consistency from partisans you’re going to end up disappointed. His supporters won’t care, his haters will bring it up endless. Just like I bring up the shit about Obama where I feel he failed me…

Does it effect 2020? Not if other shit works out.

Wouldn’t bother me to see a party cross over like that in the slightest. Not that I’m a fan of the department.

Have enough of you read about Watergate? It was a simple burglary of Candidate George McGovern’s campaign office. And then the ensuing cover up by Richard Nixon and company.

What Hillary did makes Watergate look like a jaywalking violation. Before Nixon was impeached he decided to resign the Presidency, not wanting to take the country through such a process. Also, in those days parties united when there was wrong doing and would have booted him anyway.

Currently the democrats have stone walled and complained about Hillary being picked on claiming it was all political. That is nonsense, and those democrats are not patriots the way the republicans who locked arms with the democrats in the 70’s and went after Nixon.

Allowing any high official of either party to get away with what Hillary has done is not in the best interest of our republic.

Sure, but given how low the chances of that are, I’ll take a union buster as a suitable alternative. Granted, the plan is only doing things the unions hate, rather than smashing them with a Thatcherite style hammer, but it is certainly not a bad pick.

EDITED.

Absolutely love Bannon as a part of the team

I’d be interested to see what the worst statements and actions that Bannon’s critics can attribute to him are. So far I’ve found basically nothing that he is personally responsible for. Even stuff that he was editor of is mostly just clickbait headlines, but pretty reasonable content (although somewhat brashly worded).

In regards to lobbyists in the administration, hiring a former lobbyist and giving him an official position is not such a big deal so long as its made clear that he is now only working for the government. The problem is lobbyists working for special interest groups that have special access in the administration. Alternately, officials that leave an administration and become lobbyists right away is also a problem.

I’ll echo treco on this one. NYT printed an apology for getting the election coverage wrong, but that apology has taken criticism from several people because they were and remained biased. Qulity rag but I wouldn’t trust their slant on this at all. Transition teams are always in chaos 8 days after the election.

That’s the thing though. It’s the optics.

Even Shaperio refutes the racist anti-Semite claims and he has no reason to pull punches there.

I’m not buying the left’s line of “ZMG he da racist” but the optics of picking a culture warrior provocateur is… well to be 100% honest, not inline with “pulling the country together”. More fuel for the left’s fire.

Now, it might end up that the left implodes on itself and dude helps Trump walk them into the fire, and I’m 100% wrong on the call, yes.

I’m just saying, as someone who has little hope for Trump to do well or win a second term, it looks really really bad. But you guys are right, looks don’t mean shit, actions do.

Ben Shapiro is a commentator I like and respect. He comes down extremely hard on Bannon and while a significant portion of that could be personal ire, he makes very good points and generally is quite level headed. Bannon is an awful pick, barring the 1 scenario where he is picked solely as a PR sop for the base. And even then it’s terrible.

I love to listen to and read anything by Ben Shapiro. But in this case he is letting his emotion get the best of him. There was a headline that could be considered (perhaps not) anti Jewish on Brietbart once. And I think Ben has taken it personally. Bannon didn’t write it nor were there anymore that I know of.

As for Trump picking him in a top advisors position I love it. Bannon is the conservatives conservative. And with him whispering in Trumps ear we will get a conservative justice on the Supreme Court and many other conservative decisions out of the Oval Office.

I would not allow the left to dictate any of Trump’s picks. They lost the White House and everything else across the country. It’s time for them to get out the crying hanky, which they have been using. and shut up.

Remember how well Obama listened to the right during his first two years in office when the dems controlled both the House and Senate? …Well…it’s hardball time folks.

Does anyone remember Ben Shapiro defending Michelle Fields?

He’s terrible.

Non Cabinet suggestion

Start cleaning up the voter rolls and close up the vulnerabilities that can be attacked for fraud.
Just do it now, so that in these close elections we are having, it will not be in the conversation.

No, Ben Shapiro is far from terrible. He’s conservative genius of monumental proportions. The left is so afraid of him that when college groups ask him to speak on Campus many times the college administration revokes such privileges. I have watched him shut down two and three left wingers at a time. He is a virtual walking computer with deep rooted conservative beliefs.

He’s a real talent.

Optics according to whom? As has been pointed out repeatedly, Trump’s election is, among other things, a backlash against the kneejerk response on the left to call anyone they disagree with a racist. You admit there is no evidence to support the widely circulated criticism of Bannon that he is a racist, and as far as I have seen, no other substantial criticism has been raised (other than also unfounded criticisms of misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.) In other words, Bannon’s appointment is feeding the self immolating firestorm on the left that got Trump elected in the first place.

No, it isn’t really helping to unify the country. But in order to unify the country in real meaning, either Trump would have to back off his campaign promises or the left would have to accept the implementation of those promises. And why should Trump have to back off? He won. The left was never going to unify with Trump if he ever tried to do the things he said he was going to do. Appointing Bannon just end the illusion a little sooner.

Fair enough, good post.

I have a lot of respect for Shapiro. He seems to tell it like it is and is very intelligent. Also, Ben Shapiro thug life videos are fantastic.

NYT short list, thoughts?

Interesting list.

  1. Let me put Defense Secretary at the top, because for me, it is perhaps one of the most important. (And I’d like you guys thoughts).

I think Robert Gates, (and now Ash Carter), are “Renaissance Men” who have expertise over a wide range of subjects…from Intelligence to Rules of Engagement…and from running a bureaucracy to Art and History. While it seems like it would be a “natural” for a combat Veteran to be in this position…I just don’t agree. Leave the Combat Veterans for the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon. (It’s regrettable that David Petreus is not on the list. For me, he would be the one exception; a “Renaissance Man” with combat experience).

  1. Priebus and Bannon

“Equal partners???” Is Trump KIDDING???

I think they are there to serve as the “Ying and Yang” in Trump’s ear. Priebus is the ultimate insider; who will be the principal connection of Trump with Congress…and if not for Priebus, I don’t think we have a President-Elect Trump.

Bannon is the Hard-Right Visionary…there to remind Trump who put him in office…and to always stay true to the “Movement”. I could be wrong…but I don’t see him there for 4 years.

  1. Secretary of State

I actually like Newt here. He KNOWS the History of the Republic; knows Politics; understands International Affairs; and has an ear for Bullshit and will call people in it.

Bolton? In my mind…absolutely not.

  1. Health and Human Services

Mike Huckabee is on the list??? WUH?

For reasons too numerous to count; I really don’t know why he was on the list in the first place. The DEMS will surely “Bork” him…and they should.

Ted Cruz also. While it may seem like he would be a “natural” to “repeal” The ACA…it seems like Trump is heading in the direction that the President was…keeping and “fine-tuning” the things that work; and changing the things that didn’t (albeit, more aggressively).

Even Trump is not out to “get rid of” the ACA.

That’s some initial thoughts for now.

Thoughts?

Wow.

I looked at the list again.

Interior Secretary

This may turn out to be a “Cage Match” type of fight.

There are a LOT of “Drill, Baby, Drill” types on the List. (Including Sarah Palin).

I’m for ratcheting back regulation that chokes business; but this person sure as hell better be conscious of how we maintain clean air ; and clean and robust Aquifers and water.

I don’t want to derail the thread, but what part of it works? I can’t think of any positive. But who knows, it is thousands of pages long.

Ted Cruz as AG has been rumored. That seems fitting.
