Would really love to read the mental gymnastics used to explain this appointment, especially in the light of statements such as these:

Trump is far smarter than most think. He has no intention of picking Rex Tillerson. He is floating him out there so that his actual pick will look good in comparison. Perhaps Bolton is the manā¦who knows? But there is always a game being played and so far Trump is at least two steps ahead.
Iāll be thoroughly disappointed if Kobach doesnāt play an integral role in the Trump Administration.
Your prognostication or have you read this somewhere?
I canāt find anything about this by google.
He has done this sort of stuff all year.
For example part of the reason he chose Mike Pence is because Pence is a low key type personality and creates a great contrast with Trumpās larger-than-life personality.
It shouldnāt be surprising at all he rolled out Rex Tillerson to manipulate peopleās perceptions of his actual pick.
PLEASEā¦noā¦!
Tillerson is SOS and Bolton is deputy SOS
I donāt know Tillersonā¦and Bolton is a partisan hack.
Letās see if his answer to everything will be to bomb it first, then think later.
Ironically; publicly, āMad Dogā Mattis seems less of a hawk than Bolton.
I guess the words of Douglas MacArthur are true:
āā¦The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.āā¦"
Just to add:
My American Brothers and Sisters can sure frustrate the Hell out of me sometimesā¦(wellā¦a LOT!)ā¦
But what I am Proud of is them effectively saying to the GOP:
āā¦Okayā¦here you go. Youāre UP. Show me what you gotā¦ā
The morning after the election Icahn was on Bloomberg talking about, if I remember correctly, a 2 billion dollar investment he was very optimistic about. The most he would divulge was that oil and gas was going to be the place to be.
I think he had an inside line on how this cabinet was going to be staffed and the direction we would be going economically.
Trump picking Tillerson is like spitting in the face of the democrats. They are losing their minds at this point.
That makes no sense
It is what it is. That is what he was talking about.
What doesnāt make any sense?
Wasnāt Icahn supposed to play a role in Trumps administration?
I feel the same about his GS picks, sooooā¦
These are not working America picks in anyoneās book. In fact, the brokerage/banks are a major part of the problem.
Not at all. And Tillerson is a disastrous pick for SOS.
And, interestingly - well, depressingly, if true - WaPo wrote today that Trump along with some of his most recent picks are devoted Ayn Rand readers/followers.
And Rick Perry for Energy.
Yeahā¦I HATE the Tillerson pick. I was hoping it was just rumor mongering, but sadly not. I understand having someone outside a bureaucrat in mind for the position, but that someone HAS to have serious foreign policy chops and experience. Itās too valuable a job and the stakes are too high.
And I just donāt have any comment on Ayn Rand as a foundation for policy. I hope to hell he doesnāt fuck up as royally as I think he is going to in the FP realm, but I am standing by my position that he will harm conservatism in the long run. I hope not, because Iād rather we be in great shape than have someone in office with my specific opinions, but I donāt like where I see our international relations going.
