Well, ok. I don’t see a flip. I see different cases with different circumstances.
That’s because they are.
Not that it should have made SCOTUS treat them differently, ofc. It’s not like constitutional rights are limited to people that ask with enough warning.
I’m just happy to see the concept of religious freedoms being weakened by conservatives. That religious decline keeps rollin
Let’s not exaggerate. At most we’re talking about sitting on one or the other side of a glass barrier while Christians, muslims, and buddhists alike are killed by the state in a timely and orderly fashion.
Liberals are harassing florists and nuns.
And constitutional rights are limited for prisoners according to time.
Hell, their right to life ultimately runs out of time.
They go to their cells according to times set by officials.
I never said how much it was weakened. It was a binary comment.
Agreed.
Hence why it was so shocking to see the conservative side if the court set precedence for denying religious rights.
Fwiw, its an awesome thing in my book. Just confused at the teams in this case.
Edit: as evident by only Kav flipping when timeliness wasn’t a factor. Ie, 4 still would’ve said no to Ray even if he submit his request “in time”
I don’t actually have an argument with you on Texas. My disagreement is that Kav flipped. I think it’s different circumstances. To me Texas is clearly a religious liberty case.
Happy to agree to disagree.
By flipped I meant he cared about religious rights the second time around.
Hey, you know I’m always happy to have a disagreement.
Edit: Someone told me the other day that I’m a contrarian. You know what I did?
I wouldn’t say you’re a contrarian. More of an authoritarian Evangelical with very little real world experience on the more polarizing topics.
I guess I could see you coming off as a contrarian in the current climate, but less because you just want to disagree and more because people similar to you have mostly died off.
I’m more like authoritarian conservative. I don’t care about the sect so long as my idea of conservatism rules the day. And, we’re all dying off, except for the more religious with larger immigrant families we rely more and more on to wipe our asses and fund entitlements in our old age
But, anyways, I agreed with him in order to prove him wrong!
Ehhh thats the part that’ll seem contrarian these days. Authoritarian and conservative are basically opposites irt American politics.
Atheists numbers grow every year fam. Get on board.
Lololol the contrarian paradox.
Well played
They might actually hit double digits one day. ![]()
Enlightened thinking doesn’t reach everyone ![]()
But what about the right for a non Christian to get a job allowing him to enter the chamber? If only Christians can get that job then that is a case of discrimination.
“Texas prisons will no longer allow clergy in the death chamber after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the scheduled execution of a man who argued his religious freedom would be violated if his Buddhist spiritual adviser couldn’t accompany him”.
“Effective immediately, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will only permit prison security staff into the execution chamber, a spokesman said Wednesday”.
Never thought id say it, but hella good move Texas.
No issues with that. Like I said, Texas flat out sounded like a religious liberty issue to me.
Now they can all be killed with their advisers on the same side of the glass.
Don’t mess with Texas when it comes to execution, folks…
