It all varies by region.
My father worked construction. He told me you want to be the guys in the white helmets who work in a trailer.

Dude, you are reaching now.
We are specifically talking about Pell grants. Welfare and food stamps provide immediate assistance for basic needs. Pell grants provide free money for those who can get loans or jobs.
Most people have to get jobs and/or loans. When we left for college, we were just as poor.
Because it is not an investment it is a gamble. Over 50% never graduate. Avg. rate is 34%, some schools as low as 2%.
And again, I am for Pell grants if there is testing requirements. I am also for welfare and a lot of other Govt. assistance with a time limit. You should not be able to stay on welfare forever.
But Mike Rowe said…

Yes, union member. Benefits, Pension, Annuity, even vacation pay. It was all much better than most people I know.
I know day laborers making more than that.
I am talking about Union Apprenticeships.
My friend just finished an Elevator apprenticeship. He makes almost $70/hr.
Okay. I’ll accept that our experiences have been different.
So am I. I’ve only had experience with unions. My dad’s a member of the IUBAC. My numbers for wages still stand. It can take 3-5 years minimum to be given an apprenticeship. You’ll maybe get over $20 then, but probably less than $25. After 20+ years you’ll maybe be in the high $40s. Say $48/hour - at 40 hours/week and 52 weeks/year, that’s almost six figures…after 20+ years. And you’re not getting sick leave, health care, or anything like that. Most guys don’t even get paid holidays.
Again, this has been my experience in my region. It just doesn’t lead to any better of a life even than someone who has $20k in student loans and “only” makes $50-60k at their office job when you look at benefits, quality of life, etc.
It depends on region. An iron worker in New York makes bank.
My neighbor is a millwright here in western Pa. and does pretty good.
Same work in Florida and other parts of the US may make about half.
You can make it less of a gamble.
Sure they can, if federal oversight sees a reduction
Sure they can what? Do what they want? The lawyers will love that. People have no idea who IDEA covers and the rights the students covered under it have. People argue against DEI, and for good reason, but this is a form of DEI and it isn’t just a policy but federal law.
Another DEI hire.
I was pretty impressed with her. I watched her hearing a good bit, and if even half of what she said was true, she’s a good choice. She handled herself and quite a few Dems very well.
I don’t know what happened from one day to the next, but Schiff went from partisan douchebag attack dog to her lap dog over night.
It’s sad we can see that as an achievement.
Trump lessening the odds for future assassination attempts…:
Damn right
There was a time when it was more…for the last two to three decades our leaders in the US from both parties have worked to dissolve the social culture and replaced it with a marketplace.
I agree with this. It really was “same stuff on both sides” for a really long time when it came to the most impactful government policies and especially expanding the bureaucratic state and mechanisms of control.
I believe the citizen-journalist enabled by cellphones and internet is why all of the media narratives used to manipulate us for decades (centuries, even) are no longer sustainable.
It is too soon to declare Trump to be the guy who brings us out of that, but damn if it doesn’t appear to be being attempted.
For a brief local news update and prime example of Democratic Socialist ideas about “restorative justice” and “bail reform” being put into action, read on.
At around midnight last Saturday, a man named Nathan Breton was at a Lewiston bar called The Cage. He got into a pointless bar argument, took it outside, and ended up shooting a man. Lewiston PD just announced that he has been arrested and made special mention of his $1,000.00 bail.
THIS MOTHERFUCKER IS OUT HERE SHOOTING UP OUR BARS A YEAR AFTER A MASS SHOOTING AT LOCAL BARS, AND THE SOCIALIST DIPSHITS RUNNING MAINE’S GOVERNMENT ARE TRYING TO LOWER CONSEQUENCES EVEN MORE. TODAY.
LD 268, An Act to Restore Sentencing Discretion to the Judiciary by Removing Mandatory Minimum Sentences of Incarceration
FUCK YOU, MAINE DEMOCRATS!
This is not the bar I bounced at but we all know each other and it is probably Lewiston’s oldest bar, formerly referred to as “Le Cage” on account of all the Frenchies who’d frequent it.
Nearly all of Maine experienced zero shootings at bars or nearly anywhere for centuries, including Lewiston. We are getting sick of this bullshit.

Jeez-o-man! Mine was $25k cash/straight for beating a dude pretty badly. I didn’t even shoot him!
Thats a freakin joke man.
It is but one case of many where we’re all looking around saying “WTF”? It is right up there with the guy who got $5.00 bail set for showing some Bates College girls his junk when they were just trying to make some pottery.
The bill I referenced above is the sentencing side of Democratic Socialist ideas around “equity” in the criminal justice system. They’ve already succeeded in rendering the concept of bail meaningless in Maine.
