I suspect you guys might be getting your news from folks who don’t exactly put things into historical perspective, but rather into a perspective that frames everything Trump does as somehow unprecedented.
White House remodels and renovations are as American as apple pie, and many, many renovations have been done to the White House, and more will be done in the future.
You guys are already following my very incomprehensive Trump thread, which is a good start, but try following people who aren’t hacks who’ve made maligning Trump their entire careers for the last decade. It’s still good to check in with them to see what holes they can poke into the narratives, but I’ve learned to never take the anti-Trump narratives at face value. We’ve got dozens of threads from his first term where you can see the complete nothingburgers that were served to the public, now in 20/20 hindsight.

I have two genuine objections. The first is the claim that he wouldn’t be touching the building, followed with this, which comes across as yet another lie.
The other is it’s just bad design. It ruins any semblance of symmetry, and dwarfs the main building. The existing wing isn’t symmetrical, but it’s still balanced with the West Wing.
The third objection is really just a matter of overextending things. He doesn’t really need to touch/tweak/change everything at once. That’s almost always a bad idea in almost any context. It becomes an unmanageable incomprehensible mess in short order, with no real feedback to guide future action.
There were some folks who didn’t like Bill Clinton getting his dick sucked in the White House, plus some folks who didn’t like what every other president did to the place
