Out of curiosity, do you have any ideas about how we could prevent this?
Columbine happened when I was in 8th grade, in 10th grade we had a potential shooter caught in my class, and at prom they had metal detectors and searching bags.
I’m just wondering why this is a thing we’ve kind of shrugged off.
We celebrate mental illness.
I believe it is a symptom of a broken, atomized, and sick society that makes people weird, mentally ill, and alienated, as I’ve previously written. Coming up with ideas will take much brainpower. And it would be reasonable to discuss why there is so much mental illness and crime in America, home to the world’s largest prison population. Some people say, “there is a serious mental illness problem in America”. I ask why there is such a severe problem and why do we have world’s largest prison population.
I hated that high school.

The problem they can’t overcome is that the more people learn about Charlie Kirk, the more people will realize how far removed from reality the entire Democrat narrative is and has been.
Out of who-knows-how-many hours of very public speaking, some out of context quotes are the worst thing they could come up with, and they are actually trying to run with the idea that he was some malicious, hateful bigot and not a polite and considerate guy.
He was the politically moderate, mainstream Christian, and now more people than ever are learning about him for themselves.
I have often wondered what it “looked like” when the KKK went from being this huge political force in 1920s Indiana to a fringe group everyone pretended to have nothing to do with.
I think it looked something like what we’re seeing now. Just a lot of people seeing through the lies and manipulation, then walking away from it. A lot of corruption was exposed when the “Grand Dragon” Stephenson was convicted of kidnapping and rape.
It was all a big scam, and so is the whole Democratic Socialist arm of the Democrats, who still seem to be in the ideological driver’s seat of the party.
Well, I watched that entire video….I’m still shaking my head in disbelief. What in the hell has happened in Maine? Jesus Christ, that video makes it seem like everything a kid experiences in school is because of some social injustice, carried out by the evil little white kids because of racism, religious bullying, anti-gay/trans/queer bullying, etc. It’s like they expect kids to NEVER face tough situations and that everything/place should be a “safe space”. But this is so far from reality, as when they grow up and get out into the real world, they will need to have developed some actual skills/methods of dealing with all types of people; they won’t be able to hide in their little civil rights groups where they are “safe” and protected. But also, in the “real, grown up world”, newsflash, not everyone will single you out just because you’re muslim, gay, black, brown, etc. Those kids should be taught that all of that is but just a PART of their whole identity. But liberals have been making kids be brainwashed into believing that their differences are what actually define them, period.
It’s as if all the public schools in Maine are just chock full of these evil white racists, homophobes who WILL only target you if you are different, GUARANTEED. And to think that you state’s AG office is putting this out, wow, WTF HAPPENED in Maine? Ya’ll are a LONG way from Texas, and I’m not just talking distance. Sure, we’ve got nonsense here but we’re not anywhere near that level of insanity. I’m truly sorry brother.

I 100% agree with your feelings on children. I would love to be able to protect them all. It breaks my heart to see abused and fatherless children grow up without the love and grounding I give my kids. They are set up for failure and society does little to help. We will see where we are in a year or two, as our youngest just turned 1, but after further contemplation, I think I am solidly on board with adopting should the opportunity arise.

Like I’ve been repeating in this thread, what happened is, in fact, a slow socialist revolution we’ve all experienced together to varying degrees. Maine, along with most of its largest cities, have experienced single-party dominance in Maine politics since 2019 after several preceding decades of mostly Democratic majorities in the house. Even local Republicans have gone along with a number of these woke policies, along with failing as an opposition party in general.
They are here to plunder and they play to win. It really is that simple.

I actually believe that strong and unified Europe is the best insurance against war. 27 EU countries are already very strong economic power, they could be also that militarily. I’m all for close and good relations towards US, but Europe can’t trust on you.
The UK military appears to be in complete disarray, at least compared to the UK military of the last 400 years or so, if we count England before the UK was a thing.
Germany is one of the biggest economies in the world, but their defence capabilities suck too.
Poland, Finland, Baltics etc. do have good defences compared to their economic strength. If the bigger countries would follow the example it would be a huge improvement.
Generally I feel that EU is being a bit loser now. We’re too soft towards our member states (such as Hungary), we aren’t firm enough against Russia, China or Turkey, and actually too weak against US too. The new trade deal was a surrender from EUs side. So balls are desperately needed.
UK is not in EU, but they’re in NATO, so it’s more difficult to say how they will work it out.
If only a strong leader could somehow re-arm Germany, things would probably work out great!

In strictly local news, I was just speaking with a young gal in her 20s at the dog park yesterday about Lewiston. She’s a dog groomer who lives downtown and is literally afraid to go out at night. I don’t blame her. Last night’s shooting happened a few blocks away from her.
