I had a friend from South Sudan(just Sudan at the time) who fled here as a teenager. Being a Catholic he was a legitimate refugee from the Muslim majority in the North that was “spreading the religion of peace.” The stories of the things he did and witnessed are unbelievable.
He ended up in NYC and was offered a million free handouts. He was personally offended by it and refused to accept anything but the shared apartment he was in until he got his feet under him here. I met him at work when he moved upstate. After a few years he became a citizen. Within a year of becoming a citizen he joined the air force. He told me he loved this country and he was so grateful for the opportunities he owed a debt of military service.
Ive probably told this story before, but if every person that comes to the US could have my friends attitude, wed be just fine.
I firmly believe that Maine’s generous public assistance has hindered the assimilation process, and indeed the government of Maine now seems to be actively discouraging assimilation.
It all makes total sense when you do the grim calculation that every closed business, every gunshot fired, and all of the school problems work in the Democrats favor. Every middle class family that flees the jurisdiction is a political win, as is every middle class family that never moves here in the first place. It all solidifies the Dem position.
Why would they change the policies that worked out so well for them?
Its every bureaucrats dream. A self perpetuating problem that requires copious budget increases.
They can keep their elected office, keep funding the ngo’s and fortify their positions with an army of gov employees to provide the direction and assistance their voters need.

So that asshole rapper I posted above has to cancel his US tour because his visa was revoked. It turns out that free speech doesn’t mean we have to allow social arsonists into the country.
DOJ is prosecuting healthcare fraudsters, which was a good announcement. I have it on good authority that a significant federal investigation is underway right here in Lewiston.
I’ve watched a few of Zohran’s videos and he has Obama 2.0 written all over him. Young, handsome, articulate and radical, a perfect media darling.
Fortunately(?), he jumped out of the Trojan Horse before getting elected to a high (higher than mayor of a radical sanctuary city) office. If he’d played his cards right by pretending to be a unifier like Obama did…
Well the whole Democratic Party already played the radical card during the Autopen Administration. I don’t think they can walk it back at this point, so leaning into it makes some political sense.
I think they understand that their window for a nationwide socialist revolution has passed for now, but there is still a lot of money to be grifted if they can entrench themselves at state and local levels.
The whole thing in Maine can be explained rather easily, in my opinion. It turns out that a LOT of people will get on board with all kinds of radical policies if you call them a bad name for disagreeing.
Luckily the kids aren’t buying all of this stupid crap the adults are shoving down their throats at school. Trump by 11 in the student mock election.
Getting those young people to the local elections, and not just every four years, will be the challenge.
LOL Maine’s Secretary of State, who tried to strike Trump from the ballot, forgot to disable comments on one of her facebook posts. She is currently running for governor and is an open Democratic Socialist.
I am not for criminalizing speech either, but if you do criminalize speech, there should be at least some consistency. If they’re jailing pensioniers for railing on social media against the rising criminality commited by migrants and muslims, then this guy should also face consequences for his ‘‘death to the IDF’’ cries, which in my opinion is more serious than writing in FB that you don’t want your money to be used on housing and feeding illegal immigrants.
I am actually surprised about this investigation, given the disgusting two tier justice going on in the UK. Probably nothing is going to happen to him though.
Back when SNL was still good they explained Democrat ideas about government at the time by having Bill Clinton taking a bite out of all of the working people’s lunches. That was before you could truly call them Democratic Socialists, but the core idea is still the same.
I was one, but in hindsight I think the ideological rot was already there. All of the truly Socialist ideas like DEI and dreaming of open borders were still contained in the laboratory of academia, paid for by tax dollars.
If my predictions about Trump’s second term are right, by the end of it there will be a growing understanding and acceptance that we’ve been paying to have radical socialism and mass migration done to ourselves. The ideas were all floating around during the 90s, they have just been scaled WAY up since Clinton.
When I partially moved to Maine in ‘05 and made it permanent in ‘10 it was basically governed by 90’s Democrats and very moderate Republicans, but the migrant resettlement machine was being built and the methods refined. A lot of us just didn’t understand how it worked.
Speaking of Socialist dysfunction in Maine, we got new license plates that somehow don’t function. They can’t even design a plate. None other than Shenna Bellows led this effort.
They had to put the Somalian star and the pine tree on it after failing to make Maine’s flag Somalian. Now they ran out of room and YASS QWN looks like ASS QWN, or ASS OWN from a distance.
. I think they were pretty ok. Thats about where/when I started to drift off though. The govornors of PA have generally been pretty decent, except Rendell. He had the aire of a dirtbag surrounding him, and a few people I know that owned businesses kinda hated his forced restructuring of certain types of companies that strongly favored some new state tax codes.
