Most departments are really understaffed. St Louis is well over 300 short.
Bring back comedy dammit!
Remember when we had films like “the hangover”, “hall pass”, “that’s my boy”, “not another teen movie” etc that were absolutely in bad taste but they were funny as all hell!
Comedy died around 2019. Woke comedy e.g. booksmart doesn’t count
None of those were funny…at all.
Spies Like Us is funny
Yeah. City of Pittsburgh is a total shitshow. Leftist woke mayors funding pet projects, county government squirreling away money to theirs.
They’re total gluttonous pigs at the trough of public funds.
Liberals ruin everything.
I was born in 2001
When I was a kid the “teen comedy” was still very popular. Films such as those outlined above
I do enjoy 80s comedy as well (revenge of the nerds, fast times at ridgemont high etc)
I’ll have to watch spies like us… rare someone mentions a movie I HAVEN’T seen
I like the films I’ve outlined because they are the antithesis of political correctness. They are SO wrong thst it’s amusing to me
Superbad is another one I liked
.
Ironic word pairings for the win!
Good job. ![]()
woke comedy did become a thing from like 2018-2023. Look up the film “bros” for reference, it’ll make you scratch your eyes out
This was around the time when mainstream comedy died in the era of PC.
Woke comedy died out by 2022-2023
And now we just don’t have comedy beyond TV series like family guy (which has run its course) and South Park (the ONE that’s still very solid)
I miss the REALLY crass, morally objectionable, low-mid budget comedies of the early 2000s
Films that were unbelievably dumb and never made you think (eurotrip etc)
Teen Comedy was funny.
The funniest movies aren’t comedies. Goodfellas was one of the funniest movies ever. If you want real comedies you need to go back to movies by the Marx Brothers or some of Cary Grant’s films, for example.
Make that coffee to go.
I guess we can blame the left for this, but legalizing marijuana killed stoner movies, and I miss those.
Goodfellas is great.
Lebowski is my favorite though. But it’s definitely a comedy.
Lebowski is funny on the first watch just because it’s so absurd.
But it took me years and years to see enough noir movies to get most of the references and understand why all that absurd stuff was in there.
I don’t think the lack of stoner comedies is so much about legalizing marijuana than it is imposing woke ideology. Woke has smothered the good aspects of liberally-inclined people, like artistic creativity and pushing comedic boundaries. So much talent was oriented towards woke art, which is bad art, which is why it always bombs. Forcing creators to only color inside ideological lines is how we got so much woke crap in film and television.
If I think about drug and stoner comedies, Get Him To The Greek was one of the more recent good ones I can recall set in a time when marijuana was already legal or decriminalized in most places.
But yes, when pot was illegal it made the entire process of acquiring it and using it have inherently funny elements, giving Cheech and Chong the basis for a lot of their jokes. Dazed and Confused wouldn’t be the same if they faced zero possibility of consequences for partying at the moon tower.
Back in the 1990’s I interacted with a lot of really weird characters in my quests to score good weed. Now I can walk two blocks away and get stuff that would have gone for $40 an 1/8th in 1998 for $25. I don’t smoke anymore, but I do buy my eggs from the weed store, which has the best eggs in town.
None of the laughable moments in episode 1 were intended to be funny, but The Rings of Power comes to mind as a microcosm of what these ideologues have achieved in Maine. They declare that something good and beloved by many is fundamentally flawed and must be “reimagined” along their ideological lines, then make it really shitty, really fast while they extract whatever wealth they can out of it.
Stand-up comedy is still in a good place, doing what it has always done. Most of the top comics are long past the stage of giving a damn what woke leftists say about them, and whatever outrage or criticism comes from that crowed is probably good for their business in 2025.
I’m optimistic that our artistic class is getting as sick of woke as I am and will soon resume making good comedy of all kinds, like I got to enjoy growing up in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Do you mean like patriot front and proud boys movements? Asking because I’ve got a hunch that all of their protests are ran and organized by feds… they all look the same.
The masked white supremacists in Lewiston three years ago seemed like Feds too. Nobody knew who they were, all were in good shape, and they weren’t advocating for any government policies. They didn’t say what they wanted or why they were in Kennedy Park.
Nobody’s seen them since or heard anything about them.
This event plus one dude in a New Hampshire basement who injects himself into Maine issues is interpreted as proof positive that white supremacy is the most urgent threat to Maine.
It sure fed into their entire narrative, allowing for a lot of grandiose virtue signaling.
Still no statement from any of those clowns on the actual violence we experience every week or the actual political terrorism with Lewiston people and businesses being targeted for speaking at school board meetings.
It’s all a big scam.
They all wear the same outfits.
They’re all within height/weight requirements.
None are jacked, but they’re all reasonably fit.
Same (military) boots.
All wear masks.
We never hear the results of the arrests, almost as if the only part of the story was the protest and the arrest, then they disappear.
They’re only pushing for white supremacy / neo nazi agenda. No other group organizes protests like they do.
Maybe they’re better at it because they’re all white? ![]()
In this case there were no arrests because they didn’t break any laws. They came, they stood in the park, they left, and haven’t been back.
A guy named Ryan Murdaugh in New Hampshire is the only named white supremacist I have ever heard of in 20 years here. People love to act like he’s some kind of threat or a sign of something bigger.
The demand for white supremacy is so much higher than the local supply that we import it from New Hampshire, but here we are today with it being common and socially acceptable to call Mainers Nazis. This has been brewing for a while now.
It’s all Wendy’s fault. Don’t let the acceptance flag fool you, she operates her artsy restaurant for the master race. I was a regular customer of hers when I worked for State of Maine DAFS.
No, but they’re partly the target. The NRA was a big and easy target because of its advocacy efforts for 2A stuff.
