Trucks in America

I own a Ford Ranger and though its what a friend calls “peppy”, its a decent truck. I’ll admit, I dont need a truck. When I lived in Florida I needed it for work. Now I live in New Jersey and I dont. I cant wait to get rid of it.

By the way, to answer your question, read Morris Berman’s book Dark Ages America. You’ll find a chapter in there that explains it all.

Im only implying an answer - please dont flame, im not accusing.

I absolutely LOVE my F-150! The new F-150’s ('04 and newer) are awesome! I’ve got a 4X4, SuperCab with a 35.7 gallon fuel tank.

I’ve got a hard canopy on the back and I love taking one of my kids out for an overnighter near the river or up at the lake. I love shifting on the fly into 4 wheel drive after a foot of snow falls. I love being able to help a friend move, haul firewood, or load up anything.

Appliances, motorcycles, furniture, need that trailer moved? No problem.

I’m also not much of a dog person but I enjoy saying, “Sure you’re dog can come, just load him up in back”.

It doesn’t matter what comes up you’ve ALWAYS got room in the back for everything you or a friend needs.

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been able to help someone out simply because I had my truck.

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab that I bought new in 98 and love. I also have a little car that I bought a year ago because I hated putting gas in the truck. So I’ve only put about 500 miles on the truck in the last year, but I still have a 4x4 truck when I need it. But now I also have a car that gets right about 3x the gas mileage. And that is more useful than the truck most of the time.

I’ve got both an 06 Mustang GT and an 81 Chevy Pickup. I like the Mustang because I can get where I’m going fast, but I can’t give up the sheer utility of a truck.

Going camping? No problem I got room in the back.

Mom needs 500lbs of fertilizer and mulch. I’ve got it covered.

Dad needs a cord of firewood for the winter. Gimme a sec to grab some gloves.

Going to the lake, gotta pull the boat.

Ole Red isnt feeling too good, gotta hitch up the horse trailer.

Got to move furniture? Need lumber for the Karate school? The gym is selling their old 250lb heavy bags? There’s an auction lot for 1000 lbs of used olympic plates? Need 5 bags of sand for home gym equipment?

Not a week goes by that I’m not glad to have 72 cubic feet of trunk space. Plus the truck box means I can carry tools, jacks, tie downs, extra oil and fluids, jumper cables, flares, guns, and just about anything else while keeping it protectected from thieves and weather.

And for those who like SPEED and UTILITY then I highly reccommend the Dodge SRT-10. Its a truck with a 3/4 ton frame, 1/2 ton street racing suspension, and 550 hp. Its a blast to drive.

The horsepower to weight ratio at the rear tires is pretty skewed, and with the huge footprint of the rear tires it hydro-planes and acts pretty squirrelly in wet weather. I midigate this by setting about 200-300 lbs of cement mix over the rear axle to give it some weight. My Dad drives his ‘as is’, but he’s not really heavy on the pedal so it works for him. The bed gives plenty of utility space, but I wouldn’t load it very heavy (the suspension is for speed not work). The truck itself isn’t meant to pull shit, so dont worry about a hitch or towbar.

I’m seriously thinking about buying one, though where I’m going to put her or how I’ll pay for her might be problematic. But why let details get in the way fo having fun.

Hahaha, I didn’t need to look at who wrote this to tell he was from around here, hahaha.

If you want a truck…get a truck.

Ford F350 diesel, crew cab lariet.
Leather, loaded and ready to go.

Nothing I can’t haul or pull and it’s a great ride on the hwy.

I’m running about 2K rpm @ 75-80 mph and it doesn’t run up much at higher speeds.

I miss having a truck but it doesn’t make sense for me as a daily driver.

I do have access to the company pickups when I need them.

I drive a jeep now but personally I’d prefer to have a new mustang

I have a 2006 toyota tacoma double cab sport 4 wheel drive six foot bed .I love it . Good Gas milage an Excellent road car.

Im tired of the whole truck thing also, I do still have my jeep thou, rebuilt 360, 40" tires, well it still has the jeep body anyway.
