TRT 1 Year Update

Yes. On 30 mg. Redoing labs in a few weeks

Feeling any difference?

@highpull perhaps feeling just a bit warmer. My energy remains good.

@charlie12

Maybe it will help. When my wife started thyroid she didn’t notice anything until her dose was adjusted after six weeks. Then she felt better immediately. About four months later, after not losing any weight (she really did not need to), she dropped a size. It was three weeks after buying three new pair of slacks. She had to be back and get the next lower size. Maybe you will see the belly go after you adjust to the increased dose?

Yeah let’s see. If not I plan on a trial of metformin. See if I can get rid of this visceral fat I had for many years. Including my mild NAFLD. My glucose seems very good at under 90 fasting. Sometimes in the 70s.

Am thinking 750 mg Xr a day or should I just go with 500 2x a day? If Dr doesn’t prescribe my wife has extra 750’s.

Usually need more than 500. I don’t know. Your glucose was pretty low. Get eGFR checked if you haven’t already.

Update. I was looking at pictures from before October and my belly looked more normal.

End of September I changed something. I went from injecting 90 mg subq to injecting 100 mg shallow IM. Always divided in 2 injections.

So I am going back down to 88-90 mg a week but will continue shallow IM. We shall see what happens. If nothing will then switch to sub q.

Only thing is now am on thyroid meds (since around February) so my thyroid is more efficient. My thyroid was fine before just made it more optimal so hopefully it will not impact my testosterone to much.

I had to do something. The look of my abdomen is really affecting me. I used to at least wake up with a flat belly. Now it’s basically always distended. And it’s not air. Possibly water retention/fat. I can always come back up to 100.

I recently took my e2 it was 22. So I don’t think it’s the estrogen. I remember in the summer I was closer to 30. But we are led to believe it’s caused by e2. Maybe for me it’s running high normal free t.

I feel very good otherwise.

Who the fuck knows.

I hate to kick a dead horse Charlie, but I still think you’re trying to chase a diet based problem with a pharmaceutical solution.

I know that you’re not much on managing macros and caloric intake, but consider this. I know that for me, and quite a few others, that getting T to good level also brought with it a huge increase in appetite. If you’re not actively managing your intake, then that increased appetite can very well lead to eating too much of the wrong shit.

More food in = more stored energy (fat) if it’s not monitored and carefully managed. Also, the wrong types of food will make you retain water no matter what levels your E2 is at.

ETA… Don’t trust the online calculators on how much you should be eating. They’re a good initial starting point, but they are often way too high. My calculated TDEE should be around 3K/ day. I’ll blow up like a freaking elephant if I eat that much. I have to keep total to around 2600-2700 or I start gaining fat no matter how hard I work.

They can be low too. On that note, the calculators usually have me around 3k as well. @physioLojik has me eating around 3,100 cals and dropping all cardio and I am still dropping fat and putting on muscle lifting 4 days a week only. So those calculators can be off in both directions.

That’s absolutely correct as well. You have to approach those things as a general guide and then observe how your body reacts. Just like TRT lol. Have to find your own individual sweet spot!

Side note… congratulations my friend! It sounds like you may have found a winning formula to get things moving again. I know you struggled with that for a while.

I think nh watts has a teenage son.

I have teenage boys almost 14. I can research this but maybe you have the info Handy. Is there a chart or program that a teenager can use to do some weight training at home? Basic shit. They are still devoloping obviously. We have dumb weights. But I know there’s lots that can be done with body weight.

And this summer they plan on joining the gym at 14. I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

Thx

How experienced with weight training are you’re teenage sons? If they’re not physically fit to begin with and are just starting out the basics are probably a good place to start.

Squat
Bench
Ohp
Deadlift
Row

However it isn’t a one size fits all, if any of you’re kids have significant hypermobility and/or joint issues, a more isolated approach would be taken as to strengthen specific muscles to avoid future injury. If they’re healthy, normal teenagers unlike myself then compound lifts, full body workouts 2-3x / wk would be pretty swell. Add in an isolation exercise or two if they want to get bicepz for the chikz

Although tricepz are more important, teenagers tend to thing biceps are more important

First time I ever touched weights I was merely about seven years old… And I turned out fi… Wait a minute

There athletic. So they play sports. Are of good weight.

That’s good, how tall are they?

If over 5’5 then they have gigantism

My boy is 12 but growing fast. Id like to have him start some strength stuff this summer. Just pull-ups and BW stuff. Id love to get my 14 year old daughter under some weights but she isn’t interested yet. My 9 year old daughter gymnast is probably stronger than her.

Honestly anything he likes to do. I’ve seen the young boys pick up body building and most justness pick a sport and train for that.

But if he wants to stay fit I would get him doing push and pull work. Pushups, pull-ups, squats and then the accessory work.

This way he’s well balanced if he decides to continue through maturity.

I bet the most important thing is make sure he doesn’t burn out. Find what he loves and make it accessible.

Gymnast holy cow tmshe probably is. They all are.

Well I mean she is only 9 but can move well and is strong on the bar and rings. We have a bar for her in the basement and I put gymnast rings up in the back yard for the summer.

My son is 12 as well and a bit of a nerd - video games, robotics, etc… He wants to be jacked, lol, so I took him to the gym three days ago. We did BW squats, 15 lb OHP and about 10# bench, five pound curls and fifteen pound Tricep push downs.

I don’t think he liked it, particularly the squats. He’s not athletic at all and was sore the next day, not bad, but a little.

I think the body weight thing is the way to start. Squats, push ups, assisted pull ups. Also, a lot of stretching. My son has very little concept of his body in space.

Above all, make it fun.

It’s a great idea. I taught my son to lift when he was 11. As @unreal24278 mentioned, basic stuff. Stress good positions. Workouts don’t need to be longer than an hour and three times a week is plenty.
