People (OK, Yankees, but they are technically “people”, too, if one is being generous) assume I am an idiot when they meet me. I speak and correspond very precisely to overcome this assumption.

It’s interesting cos my some of my China friends prefer to refer to themselves as “Orientals” when speaking to Westerners to separate themselves from darker skinned Asians.

This isn’t really an issue about color lol(although there are lots of racists around here). “Darker skinned Asians” would be the Indians, Pakistanis, Malays etc. They have very different cultures, hence the need for clarity.

As a Chinese person not born, nor living in China, you’re either a traitor, bastard or a banana(yellow on the outside, white on the inside) according to the extremists. I’m usually called a “bastard”.

Being that person who makes things hard for everyone else, for whatever reason, means you’re the one acting like a jerk. I work closely with a woman who I believe has a fairly serious form of mental illness, and the amount of productivity and results lost by having to work around her special requirements is staggering, and not easy to measure. It manifests itself in subtle ways, like something falling behind because someone was dreading a conversation that needed to happen. Questions that should be asked but aren’t. People literally going out of their way to avoid interaction, and results are suffering because of it.

She’s not trans, but she is very much of a victim mindset and has a host of sensitivities that she expects everyone else to tiptoe around that I’ll just categorize as “The numerous and rare ailments of Allergy Annie”. Again, results suffer when someone else’s special requirements set the rules so far outside the bounds of how you normally interact with people in a professional setting.

out of curiosity how does someone with clear and visible mental health issues get an office job to begin with? is this a low level a monkey could do it type of office?

I’ve worked mainly in places where if you couldn’t handle getting called out you wouldn’t be working there.

Shouldn’t be too surprising. If you were raised as you described, we’re probably about 98% similar having been raised in the same era, culture, country, possibly region of the US, class, and separate but likely very similar neighborhoods.

We disagree on the role of women in society. And whether or not you’re built like Flip. That’s probably about it.

I don’t believe the offense is real, but rather a mechanism she uses to manipulate people. It seems to have been successful until recently too. She’s worked in key roles at the company, which does defense manufacturing, for over 10 years.
