Bodybuilding is an all or nothing endeavour. The longer you train over time, the more intense you have to train to see results. Basically for me that means always striving to add more weight to the bar while performing the same sets and reps. Unfortunately once I reached my mid-40’s, I started getting injured frequently and had to lay-off to heal.
It was only about 5 years ago at age 55 that I decided to incorporate brief layoffs into my training to see if it helped curb my injuries. Bingo! it worked. I started training 6 weeks on, then 1 week off. The most difficult aspect of this type of training for me is getting back into that training groove after the one week layoff…when I say one week, I’m talking 9-days because my routine is 5 days a week Monday to Friday.
