Too Fat For Calipers?

Is there such a thing as being too obese to use body fat calipers? Could you get an accurate reading on someone who’s body fat is estimated around 46% using measurements and the department of defense body fat chart?

Probably not. What’s the difference though? A precise bodyfat % reading will not change what a really obese person should be doing [losing lots of fat] and how they should be doing it. A few percentage points in either direction would have no impact on the diet and exercise regimen they should be on.

I think I have heard that calipers aren’t terribly useful for people with that high of a %.

That guy needs to have that kinda body fat percent like he needs a bullet hole in the chest.

Both’ll yield the same result.

I think at that point the most accurate way to measure progress is the combination of a scale and tape measure.

I agree that whatever the body fat percentage what must happen in the kitchen and weight room isn’t going to change. Just looking for indicators for progress such as keeping the lbm he has.

If somebody is fat enough they can’t use calipers to measure themselves then what difference does it make what percent they are? The whole is point is that they are carrying way to much fat… 30 %… 70 %… wtf is the difference? the point is that it needs to change. (And I dont mean what is the difference math wise)

I am with Jsbrooks on this one that and I really need to the ugly mental image of being too fat for calipers to get out of my head.
