To juice or not to juice?

In need of advice lads…I’m training consistently for 12months, I’m 24. Since March I’ve gone from 147lbs to 184lbs by eating well and training to the max. I’m very happy with my gains, adout 40:60 muscle to fat. I haven’t touched a drug yet. I want to reach 200lbs in the next four months but I want to shed some body fat. Is it possible without juicing? If so how?

Slow down Joey. It sounds like you are eating anything and everything to gain that much fat. I would concentrate on leaning out what you have gained before piling more on. However, if you are insistent on it, BioTest has stated that they promise a person can put on 20 pounds with an 8 week cycle of Mag10. And stay off the juice. You’re years away from needing that to keep growing.

No one should juice after only one year of training. I’m sure there’s much more to learn about training and diet. I had decent gains my first year but looking back I didn’t know shit! Plus, there’s supplements like MAG-10 and Androsol to speed things up. Ever kept a food log? That’ll help. And remember that gains will slow down as you progress. If they didn’t you’d weigh 900 pounds after 15 years of training. First, lose the fat, then start adding muscle. Read Massive Eating the the “Don’t Diet” diet by John Berardi at T-mag.

So, Avoids, what is the difference then between using MAG 10 and adequate amounts of anabolics along with Arimidex and Clomid after the cycle? :-))))

Keep a diet log for a year. Read and learn all you can about various approaches to diet. You’re still just beginning this endeavor even though you probably think 12 months is a long time. Anabolics would not be appropriate at this point in your training.

Joe: I agree with all that has been said. There is CERTAINLY no need to juice. It seems like all you need to do is a)monitor things more closely and b)“Tighten up” your program here and there. It’s seems like you’re right on track. Those little things can make the difference.

In relation to weight gain. I use a rough guidline that Bob Kennedy shared with the Forum some time ago. It’s one of those “pearls” that often come across on the Forum that I’ve saved. In Bob’s own words:

“I don’t tend to think of “acceptable” fat gain in terms of percentages; rather, I tend to think of it in terms of ratios. Specifically, when I’m trying to bulk up, I do it best by keeping the muscle:fat gain ratio at around 2.5:1 (in other words, 1 lb. of fat gained for every 2.5 lbs. of muscle gained). For me, this works very well, and, although I believe that were I to allow a greater amount of fat gain (e.g., 2:1 or even 1.5:1) I would also gain muscle a bit faster, I simply don’t like my body image if I go above 11% bodyfat (I stay between 7% and 11%). Further, I know from bitter experience that taking my bodyfat too high only means that the necessary fat loss will be far more difficult than if I’d kept my patience and limited my gains.”

You are running about 1.5 pounds of fat for every 1 pound of lean body mass gained (almost a “reversal”, if you may, of Bob’s concept.I agree with Avoid and TEK. Slow it down some. Maybe “lean out” a little. Look at “Don’t Diet” protocols. By the way. The GENERAL consensus (as of 2001!)is that males should probably not let their fat percentage go above 12-15%, even during an “off” season. (I’m a little unsure about female percentages;probably about 20%. Maybe someone can chime in on this one).Hope this helps.

After seeing the results people get without juicing, I don’t think anyone NEEDS it until they’re like 260lbs or something. If you bust your balls in the gym & eat lots you’ll gain weight like crazy. I didn’t start gaining weight noticably until I started eating 4000 calories/day.

Well Sasa, since you asked I will reply. First, my moniker does not imply that I am against ALL steroid use. It merely says that I avoid the use of steroids. That is my personal preference. I am not going to risk my future financial or physical well being by using something that I have inadequate knowledge about.

Second, I am against steroid use by the uninformed, immature individual who has not attempted to reach his natural limit. Very few people are qualified to self administer steroids as witnessed by the countless questions you see on the steroid board that should have been asked before steroids were taken or by a search of the website. It seems to be the person who cannot wait to see magical results that gets himself into trouble. There are too many inherent risks with steroid use forthe uninformed to risk his health with abusive use of the drugs. I know, I know. A lot of people say it “my” body and I can do with it as I please. That is a dumb argument which holds no water.

Thirdly, I am against steroid use in women. My personal opinion is that today's female BB's look awful. Many of the side effects with female use of steroids, such as virility, may be reversible.

Forthly, I don’t know about in Croatia, but in the USA steroids are illegal. Whether that is correct or not does not matter. They ARE illegal and possession can land someone in jail.

Finally, MAG10 is not an illegal steroid. It is not intended for veterinary use so there is nothing left to amateur interpretation on converting it to human use. It will come with very explicit directions as to use. It has apparently little or no side effects. It does not require an anti-estrogen drug. I do not know, at this point, if it can cause virility in women or not but that may be covered in the up-coming Roundtable discussion.

That may be a longer answer than required Sasa but people sometimes misinterpret my moniker. I hope I have satisfactorily answered your query. And, yes, I have placed a pre-order with BioTest to try it.

Avoidy, thanks for your extensive reply. Steroids are a gray area in Croatia, nobody from the authorities cares about them, but if they really wanted to, they could nail you for malpractice, providing health care without proper medical license or something like that. You cannot buy them in farmacies like in some other countries but they are easily available on the black market, just like everywhere else in the world. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the line between natural and “enhanced” bodybuilding is rather thin, but that is something that was already extensively discussed here (you know, the argument "what is natural in eating 400 gms of protein per day, or using creatine, or inducing microtrauma in the muscles on a daily basis, stuff like that).

However, this whole MAG-10 thing - would you still use it if FDA puts a ban on it… or would you throw the bottle away immediately… and would you perhaps feel guilty for using it in the past? Just kidding…

Of course I would throw out all my MAG10 if the FDA were to ban it Sasa…NOT. I think you would be able to use up whatever you have on hand for your own use without impunity. However, if they came up with a plausible explanation that shows it is detrimental to one’s health, I would stop using it immediately. Have a great week Sasa.
