Tired of these damn politics, man

Oh yikes, yeah, hopefully not.

I think you would appreciate this book

I read it in undergrad, which was around 2004.

…to give reference for how long ago these thoughts have been there.

My brother read a book on leadership as part of the promotion to Chief in the navy, written by leaders of the fleets from as far back as the founding of the US Navy.

The gist of it was that nothing actually changes (even across centuries) but your perception as you develop from one of the ā€œkids these daysā€ to one in a position of leadership.

Pretty neat stuff. :+1:

Don’t bother with politics because you can’t do anything. Play by the rules, unless you have enough POWARH.

Well thats awfully pessimistic. Not saying your fully wrong but I don’t think your right either.

Ok then waste your time figuring out why politicians do this and that when you can’t do anything about it. Basically it all revolves around two things: money and POWARH. That’s it. If you have money and power, alright, you can change stuff. We could also say that money comes with power and power comes with money.

Theres a phrase, ā€œtilting at windmillsā€ which has some interesting backstory.

Look it up.

From what I’ve gathered, it means fighting an imaginary enemy.

I ask this because Im sick and my mind is a fog; Are you relating that to my comment you directly replied to?

@cantfitinjeans The power of one person can be supplemented with many people, I believe. In lieu of a respectable example, take Hitler. He started spread his (horribly flawed) ideas among people, which gave his ideas more influence, and then from this he gained power, and eventually put in charge (from what I’ve surmised from my limited knowledge of the subject).

If I/we gather enough people, spreading posters (or I suppose people would only see it if its online, so on social media) about the message, we can rally them. I concede, you are right in this. You need Money, and power. Good thing for me, I have plenty of room to elevate my economic status! (I put this in humorously. Is this what would be called satire? Or something? )

Yes. And that is what 99.9% of modern politics is.

You can’t have people united under one set of guiding principals and succeed as a politician.

You need other people, places, and things to point the finger of blame at to say ā€œThats the problem! And I will solve it For YOU!ā€.

So the blue haired people attack the ones in red hats, and the red hat people attack the blue haired people, and the both vote for the people pointing at the other.

But if people stop for a second and realize that we’re supposed to be ā€œOne nation, under God, with liberty and justice for allā€ then the politicians wouldn’t have much to point at. They’d be out of their jobs in no time.

That makes sense.

And I am reminded of one of the concepts in George Washington’s farewell address. To avoid the formation of political parties. And lo and behold, here we are today, with 2 parties.

So really what must happen is… abolish the political party system? But how.

Thinking back to AP US History, it really started as a divide of a strict interpretation of the constitution, and a loose interpretation.

What is the balm for this? Can we ever remedy it without overhauling the whole system?

American could be so great, if everyone was united and fought for the same cause: Progress and Development. But, with the political systems, we can’t do that. Political parties are a planted distraction to stop progress, by masquerading progress.

What is there to do then? Must we rebel? But surely there must be a peaceful way. We got in one way, and as long as we have not placed the lock of the door on the outside of the room we are in, then surely we can find a way to unlock ourselves from the room. But if it is the case that we are locked in from the outside, then we must break the room to escape.

Id just like to add quickly;

I never really understood the point of actually learning History. Like sure, its good to know stuff about the past, and I know they say that you can use it to predict the future, in a way. But now, Ive found that the knowledge has been very useful in having discussion. Im glad to have learned that stuff.

No? If anything I am against it. Its hazardous, really.

Ok then waste your time figuring out why politicians do this and that

No time needs to be wasted on this: the answer is out there.

The United States is a republic. It’s a representational system of government. The elected officials are just that: elected.

What do they seek? Re-election. How do they do that? By giving their constituents what they want.

Politicians do the things they do because the feedback they receive is that this is what the public wants. They receive that feedback by getting votes and elected/re-elected.

In turn, when you see politicians and think they are ugly, ignorant, polarized, liars, crooks, criminals and evil, understand that this is a reflection of our society. They represent US. This is who we are, and this is what we want.

If being well balanced, educated, informed, civil, and benevolent got votes: that’s what politicians would be.

Time can be wasted if you decide to stay naive. Otherwise, right, no time need to be wasted.

Then, I think, it seems we need to find a way to convince people to get this. That’s the key problem, a lot of people don’t care. This will be difficult to do though. Its up to the people, in the end.

You can give up on this. You can’t convince unless you get god involved in this. You can see this in Jeremiah, and obviously today.

I propose a different theory. It’s not that people don’t get this: it’s that people don’t WANT this.

What I am expressing is the notion that we are observing human nature. Which, in turn, I am exposing myself as a misanthrope. But for more exciting reading on the subject, Hobbes’ ā€œLeviathanā€ covers it well.

ā€¦ā€excitingā€ is hyperbolic. Hobbes is honestly a slog, but he was on point with his views. Schopenhauer is also pretty refreshing on the subject, and much easier to read. Nietzsche also shines a pretty good light on the subject.

But, for more contemporary, consider George Carlin

I don’t get bothered with it all now because I just tune it all out.

People want to be represented and I really don’t want any myself so I stay away from it.

I prefer the elected ā€œdo nothingā€ really. I’m still forced to pay taxes.

2nd terms? No thanks, don’t care about your 2nd term………

Consistent changing hands of power, yes, keep doing that and sell your books.

A lot of the trouble people get into fighting the system, that’s what they want, hence they win. No thanks!
