dude, i dont know if you know this, but clemson is ranked as a top 30 public institution. We have many other achievements too that you can find on various websites such as us news and the princeton review. Our colors are orange, purple and white which represent the colors you see when the sun sets on the lake near campus.

Putin plays politics better than just about everyone else on the world scene right now. His little back door PM manuever is hilariously fiendish. As was already said, world influence plays both sides of the moral compass.
And he is a wicked Sambo practitioner. Given the other options the OP mentioned, I’d have to give the nod to Vlad.
He wrote a book on judo techniques which is actually pretty decent from what I hear, though I don’t know that it has ever been translated. I know he has some mean ass hip throws.
Wait just a minute…are you telling me that he could take Bush in a fight?

Sounds like a K-1 HERO’s Dynamite match to me.

Putin wants to go Number 2 on all of you.
I don’t think the average Russian (or anythingian) cares about how democratically elected his leader is, just how good of a job he does. The fact is, people in Russia love Putin and much of the opposition is just a bunch of retarded Communists.
He’s not much of a Person of the Year candidate, but his work over the last 7 years has given him a lot of credibility. I wouldn’t mind having him as my leader, personally.

Vladimir Putin?!?!
What is with this???
The guy who takes over private companies for his own wealth? The guy who has started bullying the “satellite” countries again with his fly overs? The guy that randomly throws people in jail? Uhhh what were they thinking??
The runner-ups:
Al Gore- OK at least he won a Noble Prize
J.K. Rowling- I was unaware Harry Potter was a world issue
Hu Jintao- China’s leader? Oh you mean the guy who executed the business men responsible for toy recalls. Not too mention a communist but oh well.
Time officially sucks balls.

They talked about this on NPR and interviewed the guy that picks it. He made a strong effort to say that it’s not a popularity contest or an award. It goes to the person who has a large or largest impact on global politics, humanity, etc. It went to Putin because they argued that he has brought Russia back to the forefront of the world political stage and made them powerful again. He did this by suppressing dissent, jailing his opponents, and many other nasty methods.
They’re not saying he’s a good guy.
Ayatollah Khomeini was also chosen in '79.
I think Putin has done a great job… for Russia. To have taken it from where he did to where it is now was some serious work. There are some excellent essays if you follow the link below:
“…the qualities of Putin ?? the qualities that fret the West not just because they exist but because they are organically and increasingly effectively contributing to the strengthening of the country and its prestige. The key reason for the growing anti-Russian hysteria in the West is that they realize that, today, Russia has not only real prerequisites for overcoming the catastrophic crisis of the 1990s but also a leader who can make the best of them and has, therefore, become a match to the biggest figures of the world politics. The rest is just squeezed out tears for the Russian democracy ?? just empty words. An American analyst has openly admitted that a democratic Russia will be as tough a rival for the US as an authoritarian Russia.”
