This is Why I Stand

Huge waste of money.

Even without the public moneys angle, its a histrionic stunt that went down like Evil Knievel jumping a plate of crushed up oxycontin.

For me, the “Story” was the “media” trying to get a coach or owner to come out against his players. Last year, the first coach I remember getting questioned was Doug Pederson. He handled the question sort of clumsily, but basically said he’d let his players do what they were gonna do.

Seattle started standing with arms linked. I kinda liked that.

Poor Mike Tomlin tried to keep the Steelers focused in the locker room together, and to make sure no protests could distract or divide his team. That didn’t go like he planned.

Jerry Jones knelt, then stood with the Cowboys. Now he says stand for the anthem or sit for the game. Now there will be even more cameras, questions and coverage.

Players didn’t want to go visit the Pres after The SuperBowl, now the WhiteHouse is “against” the NFL. It’s crazy!

I wonder if any of Jerry’s ‘Boys (aka Cowboys’ players) will kneel despite the Boss’s admonition. Imagine if Dak and/or Zeke and/or Dez and/or the entire O-line knelt. Time to put your record where your mouth is, Jerry…

Jones usually has his players backs. Many players like him. I heard that Tony Romo named his son “Jones.”

Will these young, “New” players make a scene to be like “In Your Face!”?

Dak is my fantasy QB, so I’m seriously hoping it doesn’t happen. This whole stupid thing has gone too far when it starts affecting my fantasy team.

It’s all good though, it turns out that this was a clever plan to SAVE the taxpayers money because if he hadn’t gone from Vegas to Indianapolis and back to LA, he would have gone from Vegas to DC to LA.

Me too 100%
But JJ got his players backs… Look what he did for Zeek… I remember the 90s when Irving, Emmit and any cowboy could drunk drive do coke and beat chix without batting a eye as long as they made playoffs…ahh the good ol days… My buddy whos a die hard reb & gambler said he was protesting nfl. That lasted 1 week we was betting in no time haha. In America football trumps politics

A guy at work mentioned this and I had to look it up as I’m not much of a basketball fan.

He smokes too much pot, even for someone from New Mexico.

I’d like to throw my hat into the ring here just for shits and giggles:

  1. While I wouldn’t choose it as a form of protest, I don’t have an issue with people kneeling during the anthem. I don’t begrudge others being offended by it either. After all, if people weren’t getting pissed at your protest, you’re likely doing it wrong or your cause is such hot garbage no one cares. (PETA anyone…)

  2. As for CK, while I think anyone who uses the word “oppressed” or “oppression” to speak about any community in America as things stand today, and wears a god damn Castro shirt, is total loony who doesn’t deserve the common decency of a conversation, he put his money where is mouth is and donated to causes etc off the field. I respect that, even though his perception appears to be utter dog shit when it comes to what oppression is or isn’t.

2a) I think someone like Michael Bennett (who according to all the interviews I’ve seen comes off like a thoughtful, genuine person who’s parents help instill a very solid sense of self worth, and thoughtful examination. Someone who seems to value truth,) would be a much better person to listen to speak about the issues being protested during the kneeling.

  1. For those pissed about the kneeling, the fastest way to get it to stop would be to listen to what they have to say, or turn off the TV and quit the fantasy sports etc.

  2. Fuck Trump. I mean… Even though people spin his actual words worse than what they were, they were pretty bad (mostly petty and pure “base” bullshit). I would like to hope I would either say nothing (if it weren’t at the point where a POTUS should be commenting on it) or say something less… I don’t know, awful.

  3. Here’s what I think happened re: Trump even talking about it. He was sitting down next to one of his buddies and said “Hey, I bet you $50k I can get everyone that hates me to kneel at my feet”. All jokes aside, if you think he (and his adamant supporters) don’t look at kneeling for/because of him as pathetic shows of subservience, I don’t know what to tell you.

  4. If a politician told me I should stand, any politician, from the bully pulpit the first thing I’d do is sit the fuck down, so…

  5. I started fading away from the NFL after the deflategate nonsense anyway, and due to some personal things, just don’t’ enjoy the anxiety of investing in a game anymore. I put on the night games now, but honestly, spending those 3-6 hours on a Sunday afternoon walking in the woods with my daughter, or playing games etc is a lot more fun for me than football is these days.

Acting with class and leadership in a moment like that is no way to draw attention to The Cause. Mo Cheeks needs to get his priorities in check and stop enabling his oppressors.

My interest has been waning for years as well. It started with the rule changes in the early 2000’s. The product isn’t the same anymore. I used to watch football all day no matter who was on. My friends and family all planned our Sunday’s according to the NFL schedule. Slowly we’ve all become disinterested. I haven’t even watched an entire quarter this year. It seems like the only guys who still care in my circles are the fantasy players, which is something I could never get into.

Hey Kaep, see that bright spec speeding away from you at light speed? It’s your career. If your girl friend didn’t mock the owner of the Ravens and Ray Lewis on twitter you would have had a job. Now to sue the NFL? You’ve touched your last football, at least in the NFL, especially if you lose, which likely you will. You need evidence of collusion not a blast-o-gram from trump as your evidence.

This will be the problem for the NFL, people will fill their time with other things, things they may like better. And hence, may never return. So, this issue needs to go away soon. Otherwise, you will see in the future that potentially controversial players will not get drafted unless they are ridiculously talented and cannot be ignored. Borderline players will not get a chance. And that would be sad.
