This is Why I Stand

I already agreed to this above?

If a literal sense, agreed, as I said above.

You set up the confederate flag bait for this exact purpose. No shit you’re not surprised rofl.

It’s not a “bait” it’s to highlight the hypocrisy and logical fallacy of the situation. We both know the left* would shit a brick if someone came out with the Confederate flag as a form of protest. Hell, they’d probably even say it’s disrespectful to the military… But the social injustice canard is well within their wheelhouse so Kap’s actions are all good. That shit drives me nuts.

So, if the anthem is the perfect time to protest I expect Confederate Flags, maybe the Black Panther salute, and maybe even the NAZI salute. and I don’t expect to hear a peep about it.

*Not you unless you identify as part of the left

So I’m clear, you genuinely believe kneeling for the national anthem is LITERALLY the same as bringing out the confederate flag, the flag that was used by slavers and traitors while they killed American soldiers.

I get the whole “in line with the 1st amendment” part, but do you believe it’s LITERALLY the same?

No, I don’t think it’s LITERALLY the same thing. The PURPOSE is the same, protesting some injustice/issue (real or perceived).

Both shit right on the flag and anthem, though.

My hunch is the NFL would not tolerate Confederate flags, and I’m virtually positive they wouldn’t tolerate Nazi salutes. Assuming you agree, the question is, why do you suppose that is? Why do they tolerate–even honor–protests of the sort we’ve seen of late, but not these others?

(As an aside, it’s telling that NASCAR has taken the opposite stance–they will not tolerate NFL-style protests during the anthem, but they do tolerate displays of the Confederate battle flag.)

Because we live in a PC culture dominated by left-leaning rhetoric from Hollywood elite types that only care about silly things like the first amendment when it suits their cause.

Why is that “telling”?

Do you believe they both shit on the flag and anthem to the same degree?

OR (radical idea inc), the flag/anthem doesn’t mean the same thing to them as it does to you.

Because rednecks, on average, love Nascar and people that love the confederate flag, on average, tend to be rednecks.

My credentials for the above statement is that I personally like Nascar, was raised a redneck, and my (almost literally) entire family is currently kicking ass in redneck status.

Completely irrelevant.

Huh? Was talking to Ed’s question…

NASCAR’s for hicks everyone knows that and the drivers aint dem colored folk so this aint no dern controversy. NFL and NBA did some bull like that they would strike…NBA & NFL dont wanna loose $$$ they aint stupid
Capitalism always wins this heres Murica

Okay. Have a good one.

As most NFL teams are owned by highly wealthy, old white guys, several of whom are known to have donated a lot of money to Trump, the notion that they are ‘Hollywood elite types’ strikes me as unlikely. So I have to push back against this explanation as to why they tolerate kneeling during the anthem, but wouldn’t tolerate Confederate battle flags and/or Nazi salutes. More likely, it seems to me, is that their interactions with, closeness to, and fondness for their players has led them to recognize the kernel of truth at the core of the athletes’ protests.

Three guesses…

Nah, I’d rather just give you the benefit of the doubt and let you explain because guess #1 is they’re racists…

I was going to say that NASCAR, like Trump, was cynically playing to its base. Now, if you want to conclude that this is because the NASCAR base is composed of “racists,” that’s on you.

I’m not concluding anything. Solid twist, though 7/10

Correct me if I’m wrong as I’m by no means a NASCAR fan but NASCAR or it’s drivers are not the ones with confederate flags just the fans right?

Still working my way through the thread while traveling, haven’t gotten to your earlier response yet.

Just like the 2 minutes’ hate, eh? Bleh.

Not everyone offended served in the military (Trump) and not everyone who served is offended.

Not a good analogy. If one kneels because he believes that the values and rights that the flag is supposed to represent are not being applied equally to all races that is not the same as waving the Confederate flag which represents, in part, denying those values and rights to some races. The same with the Nazi salute.

No defending this one. Just a shitty thing to do.
