I remember after coming out of Requiem for a Dream, asking, “Who’s goddamn idea was it to go see this movie?”
Lost Highway, Mulholland Drv…uhhh, I dunno, maybe I don’t really care if a movie leaves some loose ends. I mean, not all narratives have nice clean endings, some are meant to keep you guessing. However, if said film is produced in such a way as to keep you guessing until the sequel comes out, then you’ve been marketed, not challenged.
Patricia – glad to see that some one else has experienced “Brazil.” I saw that one when in college working my summers in Alaska. Good movie. Haven’t seen it in probably 16 years. Funny how just one typo can set so much into motion.
Two classic lines from that movie that just crack me up (but probably mean NOTHING if you haven’t seen the movie):
Usual suspects for my money is the best, with Primal Fear coming in at a close second. Then comes all the Hitchcock films, vertigo, shadow of a doubt, psycho…etc
Word @ Greekdawg and Diesel. Mulholland Drive sucks ass.
It’s a great movie for exposing pretentious fucks who profess they understand it though. Or the hapless folks who attempt to but there is really nothing to understand.
Being John Malkovich
Schindler’s List and The Pianist…just for the mere fact that they are such powerful movies and they make you think about life in general
When it comes to fighting the “drug war”, screw legislation, just make Requiem for a Dream mandatory viewing for middle school students. Excellent movie (strange, nausea-inducing, but excellent) with a most excellent line:
“I know it’s pretty baby, but I didn’t take it out for air.”
