Thinking About Moving to Cali...

I agree with some of the above posts, that Cali has a number of problems, you might want to reconsider. Worst economy in the country, one of the highest unemployment rates, housing sucks and is pricy, highest taxes in the nation, a fucking stupid statewide legislature, schools suck ass, I mean I can’t imagine why someone would want to come here. Pros might be the weather and hot stuck up worthless women (not all but more than any one state would ever need.)
You paint such a majestic, dreamy picture it’s making it very difficult for me to stay away!!

(from living there … visiting sounds nice though)
X2 Damn man it sounds like you’re just a wee bit jaded.

You honestly have nothing positive to add besides the weather?

San Diego does have affordable housing if you are looking for college aged roommates(You won’t find anything cheaper then 500$ a month not including utilities). We also have a lot of fine community colleges where the transfer rates are very high comparable to other community colleges in california. SDSU is cutting enrollment a lot and jacking up the prices, but it is still easier to get in and more affordable then the other universities (public/private) in san diego. Being a minority with a nice GPA will definitely help.

How short sighted you are Andrew … The East Coast ALSO has beaches you can go to year round … it’s called FLORIDA, GEORGIA, SOUTH CAROLINA

Dumbass.

Oh and I lived in So Cal for 12 years … bullshit you can go to the beaches year round, it gets cold there too
WTF! i’ve lived in Georgia and NO IT’S FREAZING in the winter. What are you smoking? South Carolina as well. Cali has cold days in the winter but it also has plenty of sunny warm days in the winter, probably a 50/50 split of cold vs sunny during winter. When it rains out here it doesn’t continue to rain and be gloomy for months on end as does Georgia and SC. Florida okay, but it’s too fkn humid over there. Dry heat for the win, plus you didn’t say anything about the happy cows, so cali is still way better Douch!

I will list as many as i can think of off the top of my head

Sport games all year round
Tons of small and big music venues
san diego zoo, wild animal park, seaworld
San diego horse races starting in july
San Diego county fair starting in June
Beaches where bonfires, surfing, snorkeling…etc are permitted
Pacific Beach - alcohol drugs and tons of fine girls, also a lot of douchebags
numerous hiking trails
Balboa park - bunch of museums
Belmont park - kinda lame but it is fun to take a date to every now and again (games, rides…it is a small amusement park)
There are a lot of golf courses and shooting ranges
It is pretty damn easy to get a restaurant job if you need something immediately
La Jolla, Del Mar, Gaslamp district, Coranado are all pretty nice to walk around in
Plenty of places to rent kayaks, jet ski’s, surf boards…
Honestly, there are tons of really hot girls and being anywhere where there are tons of really hot girls is always going to be a good time

San Diego is a pretty big place, we honestly have just about everything to offer. Our public transportation kinda sucks, but it is getting better

/edit

and if there is any sort of sporting activity you want to join(mainly played for fun), there are leagues for just about everything, from flag football to kickball

You can also go rock climbing here and we have water parks

Remember…you gotta go into the hood to find the good Mexican food in SD.

Do you realize that other than the beach or the snow, just about every state has what you mentioned above? Parks, fairs, all that shit exists in every damn state.

I will tell you what is so fucked up about Cali… “the lame ass, stuck up, I am too good for you, what can you do for me, how much money do you make, what kind of car do you drive, who do you know, who can you introduce me to, how can you help me further my career” attitude. There are no down to Earth people around here. That, and paying $450/sq foot bullshit. I wish a massive quake would break the San Andreas Fault and drown this fucking shit state. Oh don’t worry about me, I can swim, or grab onto Pamela Anderson’s tits.

damn, sounds like california has really fucked you over. I don’t know where this grudge is coming from, i don’t know where you were born and where you have lived and what experiences you have had in your life, but maybe the problems you have with california and it’s people come from your shitty ass attitude. California is probably one of the more diverse states out there when it comes to it’s people and it’s climate. If you have that big of a problem with where you are , then please, kick out.

Thanks for that JaX

@Maximus | If you hate Cali so much why not move? I’m getting tired of GA and I’m taking steps to gtfo. You can’t bitch and then not do anything to change your situation.

Why does Max stay here?

I think he mentioned it already…

Max, I don’t know how you got so jaded. I lived in Long Beach for 11 years and most people there are really nice and genuine. I think because there is a certain ‘fluid’ character to it, that is to say people come and go at a high rate, some bad apples are free to do their thing with out worrying about getting a bad rep. Other than those exceptions the people are great.

OP, Check out Seal Beach. Rent a room in a place with some other young college guys and you will have a blast. Several city colleges in the area then you can go to UC Ivine or Cal State Long Beach. Both close to Seal Beach.

How expensive is hella expensive? They have an excellent PhD program for my field at UC-Santa Barbara and I’m strongly considering them (assuming I get accepted of course) but an assistantship would only give me 26k/year. Would I end up living in my own urine on the boardwalk with that amount of money?
Eh, I’m sure you could get by. I’m really only used visiting my father’s place in the Montecito area and not the city as a whole. Def do some research though, I’m sure you could find something in your price range.

Good thread. I am moving from VA to SC for a little bit to “figure shit out” and have entertained the idea of rolling out west to Cali. I don’t have much saved up and WILL NOT go back to waiting tables. Maybe bounce or something for a little while until I figure out my plans. Already got a degree now just gotta figure it out.

Not sure why I wrote all that. What’s traffic like? Northern VA/DC traffic is stupid. Takes me 30+ minutes to go the 5 miles to work. WE CAN LANE SPLIT IN CALI THOUGH!!!

Can’t do much about the snow, but i honestly only know one person that listens to ICP and he lives in San Diego. You have got to be kidding about the rude people and drivers Cali is Soooo much worse on that account. You got me on the El Pollo Loco, it’s here but you have to hunt for it.

Really though why do you stay here if you hate it so bad? I have only lived in Michigan and Florida, but if I didn’t like where I lived I would sure as hell change it. Personally I don’t get it about Cali. I enjoyed visiting, but was more than ready to come home every time I was there. I guess that’s it, home is where you were raised and unless you had a shitty childhood you will always be drawn back there.
