F-ing Jersey…
1000%. I lived with a guy from Jersey for a while. Backstabbing motherfuckers convinced of their own superiority.
Wasn’t you originally only plural and thou was singular?
I thought the youse thing was made up until I moved there and heard people using it.
In Old English? Thou was singular and ye was plural. But English is chaotic and evolves.
I am so sorry.
There are good people and places everywhere.
But most of the US south ranks poorly in a lot of metrics, such as education, health and safety
With that said, I’d love to get a job in Charlotte or Atlanta
Pro tip, if you have a commute for work, live on the east side of those cities.
Similar vein: I know so many people that say “I seen…” instead of “I saw…” (which is what they mean).
Nails on a chalkboard level irritation.
Verbal ticks irritate me, but I’m guilty of it too.
“Umm . . . actually”
“Know what I’m sayin?”
“Like I said already”
“Am I right?”
I am less picky about grammar than most bc I’m not the best with it myself.
What do you mean by education? There are good schools in the South and not everyone is some illiterate named Cooter. Safety is a Democrat run city issue. And health is a result of diet, it’s not something in the air or water.
The worst is someone who uses a soft N word the same way some people use uhm.
You mean bestest. And you spelled grammer wrongly.
stuff like this
I used to hang out with a white rap producer who ran a studio out of his house, and we were both southern, and usually had a a mixed-race crowd hanging out. The amount of times we had to tell white dudes not to say that was astounding.
Consider the people you will be around most of the time. If you’re an MD or a lawyer, you will be around educated people, other than some patients and clients, most of the time regardless of where you are.
And I live in the Northeast. I’ve lived in New Jersey and Massachusetts. Just because there are more people with college degrees doesn’t mean you have more smart people; you just have a bunch of educated idiots. And given how uneducated an educated person can be these days, a college degree doesn’t tell you much.
I need to axe you a question?
That one doesn’t bug me that much.
Yinz.
Like “Hey! Yinz want to go grab some beers?” .
I taught in some racially diverse schools. A Black kid accused me of being a white supremacist because I used the term “You all,” referring to the class, the students.
He was 14, a Freshman, complained to the administration and a few days later a Black female administrator observed my class and pulled three Black students out to speak to them about my racism.
Obvs, I was cleared of wrong doing, lol. I loved that class.
My Sister in Law is Brooklyn Sicilian, and that is different than Sicilian. She uses youse guys.
