Things That Piss You Off

The bad pun song is that Papa Roach song

I’m in exaclty the same position. I often admire the fancy cars, and nearly pulled the trigger a few years ago, but I now realise it’s just a box that gets me from A to B. My beat up old Mazda does that just fine. My workout clothes? They’re comfortable, and cover all the bits of my body I want covered. They don’t have names on them. I’ve probably spent less than Ā£20 on workout clothes since I rejoined the gym over a year ago and don’t intend to spend more until I have to. To me, these things have one function and if they do that, I don’t want to waste any more time, thought or money on them.

It all depends on value for me. If it brings a lot of value for me in life then it is worth the money.

I used to love cars, so I had decent cars 25k+ or more, always. But now I despise cars, its just a hassle. After having lived in a place where I didn’t need a car recently I’ve grown to hate and not want one even more.

My next car, if I need one is going to be something economical, practical, not some fucking BMW like most of my friends get.

However, clothes… I like clothes. Looking like a bum only works if you’re a tech billionaire.

I like nice clothes, but that only applies to the ā€œniceā€ section of my wardrobe. I pay to get things altered or seek out the fitted stuff. And even then, I can find buy 1, get 1 free deals or buy 3 for $100.

Most of my workout shorts are from the supplement store. They give me free shirts and I can buy their stuff with my reward points. The shirts are super soft and cut for athletic people. I love them.

… or a broke student… For most of HS, my newest shirt was 3 years old. My parents did make me get a new ā€œmore presentableā€ wardrobe for college, but my style is very much still bum/tech billionaire.
Now that my career goals no longer involve high brow finance firms, there’s no incentive to change

There is middle ground between ā€œlooking like a bumā€ and spending a fortune on clobber.

does wearing just the right gym shorts add a lot of value to your life?

This is all in your mindset. You and I have different understandings of life and how one is best lived…you’re an interesting person

My thing is that I refuse to spend more than 10seconds deciding what to wear

I 100% agree. It’s just my perception of value has changed. Wearing nice clothes to the gym brings no value to my life. Driving a nice car brings me personally no value. I choose to spend my money where i see value.

Define ā€œworksā€. What is it you want your clothes to do? ā€œLook good all the timeā€, why? For me, I have no need or desire to look well dressed all the time. It’s not worth the time or money for me.

Nothing wrong with that at all and my thinly veiled dig wasn’t aimed at you, I promise.

Agreed. That’s why when I ā€˜come to’ and realize nice shorts are 30,40,50 dollars I start to get mad.

@polo77j

looking good does add value, yes.

as long as you recognize it adds value TO YOU…then have at it

yes, polo, that’s exactly what I’ve been saying lol.

rough morning?

@dagill2

why? because when I look good, I feel good.

at least that is where I am in my life right now. maybe it will change later. if I start having kids, get fat, whatever, maybe I won’t give a shit about what I wear.

but right now I do.

that’s not ā€œexactlyā€ what you’ve been saying. That’s what you’ve been implying.

Morning’s been fine, thanks for asking. I’m not the one depressed because I can’t find the right shorts to wear to the gym

Wasn’t a dig man, not about to try and tell you how to choose your priorities. I was simply explaining mine.

I just let my girlfriend shop for my gym shorts. She loves searching out the flyest gear for the best deals.

I actually wish people still dressed nice for day to day stuff. I’m tired of seeing pajama pants and crocs everywhere. But I guess I’m guilty of it myself. I usually run my errands on the way to or from the gym so I’m in gym clothes wherever I go.

I’ve started taking the time to find and spending a bit more money to buy clothes that fit me well. I’m tired of buying a ā€œniceā€ shirt and having it fit like a poncho.

There is all kinds of win built into that.

They like and feel good about doing it, I maintain plausible deniability about cost, origin, etc.

They just appear to be tried on and either kept or returned, etc.

omg you just triggered me.

this was the reason I thought about starting my own clothing line a decade or more ago. they don’t make clothes for ā€˜fit’ people, or even people with broad shoulders.

it’s either you are a skinny male model, or a fat fucking American. there’s no in-between.

gym clothes have come around with various brands like GymShark and such, but going out clothes are still a problem.

I like the brand RVCA, the shirts fit me pretty amazingly. So I do stick with those for my t-shirts but I’ve noticed the brand starting to really really catch on with the mainstream crowd in the last 5+ years, which is a bit annoying.
