The ultimate T-movie: Blackhawk Down!!!

Really Good, definatly worth seeing in the theater, but not one of the best movies ive ever seen. Just my 2 cents.

Dont wanna ruin anything but was dissapointed with the ending. Obviously they cant distort what happened, but still kind of deflated at the conclusion…

Finally went to see this movie yesterday. One of the most mentally ehxhausting experiences of my life. For any one who has seen “Saving Private Ryan” but not this one, just think of the first 15 minutes of “Ryan”, and extend it to two hours. That’s about how “Black Hawk” struck me. I can’t believe that Washington would send those guys in w/o armour and heavy artilary. I don’t know how Slick Willie can sleep at night. I truly hope he sees this movie. Maybe he should have a private screening with some of the survivors. If you have ANY desire to see this movie, I strongly recommend it.

Loved it. I have intimate knowledge of Delta’s loadout for ops and they got the details correct. Little details (or major ones) like wrong weapon choices or stupid tactical movement usually piss me off. They showed enough but also did not show too much. The CQB Delta did in the structure was watered down enough to not give away tactical information, I don’t think the garrote scene was accurate, but all in all I think they got the details correct.

The only inaccuracy I could pick out from the movie (having zero military experience, and SEAL friends who don’t like to talk about it), was the guy near the beginning (when the film first cut to the market) who was wearing the Oakley metal jackets. If I remember right, those weren’t even made until 1997. The events took place in 1993. Picky, I know, it’s just something that stuck out to me.

RE the question over the allocation of armoured support. Undoubtedly it would have saved the lives of the men on the ground around Super 61 and possibly 64, but the intent of the mission was high speed, “hit and run, get it done”. The mission was undoubtedly compromised by the fact that the Blackhawks DID get shot down. No additional armoured support on the ground at the time of insertion would have made any difference, as evidenced by what happened to the second convoy assigned to secure the fisrt Blackhawk. To not have them on standby however, as a contingency, was incredible.
