The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

As often pointed out everyone acknowledges that Presidents haven’t been saints by any means. The difference is in front of the world when your words, actions, behaviors can change foreign policy and move markets how do modern Presidents speak and consider their words?

If you want to argue Clinton was disgusting behind closed doors I won’t fight you. But watch the speeches of say Jimmy Carter-Obama. They all have a lot of similarities. Then watch Trump speeches. Tell me whose speeches are more appropriate as a President? The previous ones which were all similar in terms of consideration and respect 95% percent of the time. Or the one whose supporters are chanting lock her up send them back or some other nonsense? The one where reporters, our own intelligence community, and everyone else is at risk of being eviscerated. The one where you can tell zero thought is being put into the idea that his words are important?

It’s really not even debatable. Trump had a roaring economy for a bit and his approval ratings were low. Similar situations for Presidents have had vastly higher approval numbers. I think Trump will win in 2020 but if he loses it will be 100% the way he conducted himself while in office. That’s precisely why you have people in here who lean Republican who have said they won’t vote for him.

Here’s a Trump apology.

What do you consider more important? Words, actions, or behaviors?

Not low enough for Democrats to feel safe about the election, though.

I think they all matter. Most importantly you’re the leader of America. What you say and how you behave in public is very important. And Trump’s unique in that he doesn’t change how he behaves or talks even when in front of the world. Say what you will about the behind closed doors behavior of any modern President. How many of them didn’t consider and recognize the importance of their words and the impact they could have. How many of them did you question that they had an ounce of empathy?

=/= apologizing
Has Trump denied that he said mean(or whatever) words?

I’m not sure what this means. Trumps approval rating could be 15 points higher if he was an adult. This thread wouldn’t even exist because he would be on Reagan or Clinton cruise control. So we’d be talking about 2024.

If he loses it will be solely because people don’t want someone who acts like him anymore. And he can’t help it it’s a mental illness to an extent. However, he can certainly consider his tweets and public persona he just doesn’t give a shit. He’s the first President that if you were a teacher you wouldn’t want to show a typical press conference or speech because of the content.

That’s why I liked Sloth even though we saw the world completely differently. He was a devout Christian who wouldn’t consider voting for him simply because of his behavior. Even if he was in agreement with some of his policies.

What a dope. He just handed Hillary the election.

This speaks to it. Trump has so consistently been crass and full of shit that it doesn’t really register with anyone anymore. We’re simply used to that type of behavior. You typically apologize when you say something harmful or out of character. But when your character is absolute shit 24/7 it’s no longer needed.

This.

If Trump does lose…it will be all on him (just like Hillary, by the way).

At least Hillary admits SOME of the mistakes she made in her 2016 loss; but refuses to concede her high negatives and missteps.

IF Trump loses (which I think he won’t)…there is no way in hell he will ever admit that it had anything to do with him.

As a voter who enjoys comedy more than Washington politics, I’m still holding out for the possibility that we haven’t yet reached Peak Biden.

November is a LONG way off.

and another one…

Last one until the next gaffe. Promise guys.

I disagree. His fan base appreciates his antics (you know, liberal tears are serious business) but there does come a point where those who are not worshiping him say enough is enough. It may have been amusing for the first three to four years but maybe it’s time to cancel his show. This pandemic has highlighted Trump’s shortcomings (Covid doesn’t read his Tweets) and served as a reminder as to why we need an adult in office.

When Trump barks at governors about opening things back up, and they ignore him, he just doesn’t seem like the powerful leader he told everyone he was. This is the guy who said he was the bestest negotiator and he’s been reduced to being publicly called morbidly obese by a woman.

That’s a potential problem for him. He’s a one trick pony and when you have one trick, you have no trick.

You could be right. I will admit that my wife who pays very little attention to politics said something along the lines of when he was elected that he was a complete asshole. I told her that now that he was elected he would act more Presidential. He wouldn’t tweet nonsense and he wouldn’t run everyone down 24/7.

Foolishly in hindsight I actually believed this and don’t think I was alone. I’m betting no shortage of people who despised Clinton may have thought something similar…the office will humble him and he will act Presidential. Obviously that didn’t happen in the least bit. I do think many who have hitched their wagon to him are also just going to keep riding it out. It’s not like he has kept the majority of his promises or anything. But I think some are invested in team Trump and like he said he could murder someone and his supporters would probably be still there. Nothing he has done has really effected the base anyways. They just want to chant stuff I guess.

If anyone needs a reason to vote The Donald this year.

“ Dailey wasn’t the only one. News pundits struggled to hide their shock, and horror. The CNN commentator Van Jones said Trump’s victory was fueled by a “whitelash” against a changing country. “How do I explain this to my children?” he wondered.

Forrest was wondering the same thing about her children who were in her hometown of Waterloo, Wisconsin. “My daughter and my son had gone to bed thinking things were gonna be OK,” she recalled. She broke down heaving and sobbing when she realized that she would not be the one to tell them what happened.

Cheeks, the Madison city councilman, was also scared. His wife was not a political junkie like he was, and he assured her that it was absolutely impossible for Trump to win. “I thought you said this wouldn’t happen,” she told him after Trump’s victory was announced. “I didn’t have an answer for her,” he recalled. “For the first time, [Cheeks’s wife] thought to herself, ‘What does this mean? We just had a child that we’re bringing up in this world where Donald Trump is the president.’”

Yeah. Why consider policy when there are liberal tears? Since when are we expected to be adults… or sane?

Exactly. They both suck, so just vote for the one that will make idiots cry.

They both make idiots cry. On one side, I won’t say names, all it takes is having to wear a mask to bring out the cries of victimhood.

Do you weigh them all equally? What if a person’s behavior goes against their words? Would you rather have someone who says what he thinks you want to hear or someone who says what he thinks regardless of what anyone thinks? Do you believe most of the things politicians say?

I don’t believe most of what any President says when he is giving a political speech. I don’t believe anyone with an ego big enough to think they should be President has empathy for anyone. I think people who do are seriously naive.

Are these the only two options? Is there an option in which a person says what they think and it happens that I like it? To me that seems more optimal than the previous two options.

Is it possible that someone actually is qualified to be president? If they are qualified is it really ego? Is it possible to be competent and have empathy? I sure hope so. Even if it is not, I would hope that at least they can pretend to have empathy and act on it. After all, the outcome does not care if it is fake empathy or real.

Sure, it would be optimal. Politicians are experts in the art of double speak which is why I weigh their actions much more than their words. I put little stock into what people say.

There are likely people qualified to be President but none of them are running.
