Trump likes Peeps.
Been a while since I’ve checked on PWI. Some observations…
Lots of folks arguing for public ownership lately. Fed is buying corporate bonds now and is considering purchasing equities. So, not only do we have the government picking winners and losers, but we’re also looking at public ownership of the means of production. Funny what a pandemic does to free market capitalists. Can’t imagine how Bernie must feel having to be on the sideline for this.

Relieved Hogan isn’t making me regret the vote I cast for him in 2018. And, what a gift to Democrats if they can figure out how to use it. The lines of attack seem obvious to me. “Trump is asking Americans to expose themselves, their family, friends and neighbors to a lethal virus in order to prop up the stock market”, or “Trump fixates on the Dow while governors lead the response”, etc. I’m sure Democrats will blow it and let Trump control the narrative though.
This whole corporate bailout thing makes me sick. Corporate borrowing has been out of control, in part due to lax monetary policy. Companies have leveraged up, taken on too much risk all the while buying billions of their own stock at record high prices. They’ve fallen on their faces, but no worry… the taxpayer is here to bail you out. Details are different, but same kind of shit as last time.
And, does it irritate anyone else that the folks who always pay the price in situations like these are the ones at the bottom of the economic ladder? White collar workers are comfortable at home working remotely. Meanwhile, healthcare workers, delivery folks, grocery store clerks, law enforcement, etc. are exposing themselves to potentially lethal risk every day. My trip to the grocery store was my only public outing (and therefore risk exposure) this past week. The levels of risk the clerks/cashiers are exposing themselves to are orders of magnitude greater than mine - so many people cycle through a grocery store every day. The irony of course is that the ones with the greatest chance of catching the virus are the ones least likely to have paid sick leave.
Great to see the folks who can afford the 6 and 7-figure investment minimums required by hedge funds are doing OK though. Meanwhile, those of us lucky enough to have 401(k)s are looking at 25% drops YTD.
So much of this whole thing really pisses me off. Really lays bare who the winners and loser in this country are.
Two wings of the same bird. There are like 5 non shitbags in the senate and a handfull in the house. The rest will grow government and cease power ever chance they get.
My favorite is almost every comment section you can read on politics usually says “we need term limits!” Now personally I am for term limits, but we are essentially saying we are far too stupid to not vote for the same people over and over. Make it to where we have to vote for someone new every once in a while.
And im against term limits for that very reason. A moral informed electorate is necessary to ensure freedom prevails. But, if we are a bunch of dumbasses, we get what we deserve.
The way things work, the new person won’t be any better. It’s not like those in power became useless self serving windbags after a certain number of terms.
And I’m for them precisely because we are idiots. We need all the help we can get. Doesn’t really matter though just funny to me that Congress often has like an 8-15% approval rate for the longest time and the vast majority of them don’t ever lose.
Completely agree. I would say the best benefit for them would be it would (in theory) lessen the amount of time one could get entrenched with certain special interests.
WooHoo!
Guess what I got in the MAIL today?
My official offer for an Authentic Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” Commemorative Coin! (It will even come with an official Certificate of Registration!).
I am SO on it! Just trying to think where I might display it! (I’m thinking either the MANTLE or my piano). What do you guys think?
You were put on the mailing list when you got that MAGA tat on your chest.
For $29.99 you would be a fool to not take that offer. Can you get more than one? One for the piano and one for the mantle (these are a limited supply, so you may be limited to one).
That’s not where he got it.
It’s sad, isn’t it? I think most people disapprove of Congress but have no clue what Congress does or should do.my guess is 70% of American can’t pass a basic civics test. So you get members with 40+ years in Congress.
It’s because people have their own agendas. They are one or two issue voters. And the issues they care about don’t really affect their quality of life one way or another. Take abortion; people, dem or rep, will vote based on that issue alone. The other candidate could be the best man for the job but if his stance on abortion doesn’t coincide with their belief, pro or anti, they’ll vote for a piece of garbage who agrees with them on that one issue instead.
This. I also think in most elections no matter what a lot of people think well this guys certainly is 99.9% awful. I will be voting for him because I’m just not sure that other guy I don’t know might be 100%.
National level races the power of incumbency is really strong. We have had three straight two term presidents. The last time that happened (leaving out FDR for 4 term purposes) was Jefferson, Madison, Monroe. Unreal.
When’s the last time the Presidential Party-affiliation went five Presidents without two-in-a-row having the same affiliation?
(Bush 1-R, Clinton-D, Bush 2-R, Obama-D, Trump-R)
This organizes it pretty well Nick.
It says George Washington didn’t like the idea of political parties. Everyone else did!
Looks like never(unless I missed it). We’ve really started liking the idea of revolution without change, apparently(Trump is a bit of a change in some ways, but not so much in the way he governs).
Free market, Democrats are all socialists, and all that.

No surprise here:
Trump signed the stimulus Bill.
“I want to thank Democrats and Republicans for coming together and putting America first,” Mr. Trump said at the ceremony to sign the bill in the Oval Office".
No Democrats were present for the signing, and an aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirmed she wasn’t invited.
MAGA.
4 more years.
