They are not loyal to anything that requires effort or thought. Nor to anything that does not provide immediate gratification. They are, however, loyal to Pokemon Go.
Agree on the first part, not so much on the second part. SCOTUS decisions have repercussions for decades and longer given legal precedent. No matter what happens with down ballot races in every election from here to 2050, a single SCOTUS decision will reverberate for longer.
‘Millenials don’t get out to vote’ is the inevitable reply…but that’s because nobody has courted them successfully. The president of the college republicans gave a short, little watched speech at the RNC and basically told people how millenials and younger people look at voting and party line. They vote in droves when mobilized…but they have to be mobilized. And when they get older and show up to the polls more often as a result of aging and (hopefully) maturing, they are going to be a wildcard because they don’t consider party loyalty as the most important factor.
All Trump had to do was let the father speak his mind, but if he had to say something, he could have suggested that Hillary voted for the war, which led to the death of the son.
Last week after the RNC, Trump was up by 5 points.
If you want to delude yourself that Hillary has it in the bag, go ahead. My POV is that it is anybody’s game. The real decider will be the debates, especially the first one. Who ever does well in the debates will likely win.
I could see Trump (as President) moving so far to the left of many tens (hundred?) of millions of citizens that the GOP or at least his followers, becomes a centrist party with a more conservative party setting up to the right.
Yeah, trump needs to learn the art of shutting the fuck up. I think strategically shutting up would help him greatly.
On the other hand, the media blew it way out of proportion too. I had to suffer through 3 articles bitching about what he said before I found one that actually reported what he said. And when I finally read it, I thought “meh, he might be right, but he shouldn’t have said it.”
Also check out this research papers findings on Muslims in America
1.) Muslim-Americans have been fighting on BOTH sides of the war. In fact, more Muslim-Americans (20) have been killed since 9/11 fighting for ISIS than have been killed fighting for America (14).
2.) Since 9/11, the number of Muslim-Americans who have been killed in action fighting for the U.S. is the same as the number of American soldiers who have been killed by fellow Muslim-American soldiers Major Nidal Hasan at Ft. Hood and Sgt. Hasan Akbar at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait.
3.) Since 9/11, the number of Muslim-Americans who have been killed fighting for terrorist organizations in Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, and Pakistan is almost three times the number of Muslim-Americans who have been killed in action fighting for the U.S.
OR instead of blowing things waaaay out of proportion, it could have been used as a platform to talk about gender equality in muslim communities, even in the U.S. Because we know it’s a problem.
“If you look at his wife, she was standing there, she had nothing to say, she probably — maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say, you tell me.”
Trump appears incapable of resisting the temptation to set a garbage fire, lie down in it, and bathe in the molten trash at least once a week. But even by his benthic standards, this week’s conflagration has been spectacular.
Forget the substantive case against Trump that normal people have been making for a year now, forget morality and intellect and character and policy: from a purely political standpoint, this guy is a fucking catastrophe. It’s becoming clearer and clearer that unless a consequential surprise is on the horizon (this being not altogether unlikely, mind you), the White House will belong to the Clintons anew.
She’d have lost to just about anyone else. Think about that. Think about what the GOP threw away this year.
You think that is talking about gender equality? Good grief man, it was completely outragious and Trump, yet again, missed an opportunity (as pat and Max said). I dare you to defend how attacking the mother of a lost soldier is a good tactic.
Look at how Mike Pence and John McCain responded. Trump cannot keep blaming others for his missteps.
The mother said NOTHING. He attacked her. So even if your logic was ok (it’s not, a good politician gets attacked all the time and doesn’t go into twitter rants), it doesn’t apply in this situation.
You used that quote as an example of how Trump discussed gender equality. Is he attacking her or discussing gender equality?
It’s an embarrassing year to be a Republican. Although it is making it easier to identify the sane ones, the partisan hacks, and the delusional Trumpians.
Forthcoming: The spectacle of a nativist immigrant (lol at these first two) alt-right MRA babblingly questioning the honor or integrity or worth or sincerity or whatever of parents who with solemn pride laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom as their own son. What a world.
(Or perhaps we will be informed that this was simply one of Trump’s masterful “persuasion tactics.” Rule number 456: if an attack on you is effective, make sure it stays in the news for at least a week.)
