And given the history, if the evidence suggested that Russian Mil-Intel had violated American sovereignty by directly intervening in a presidential election in order to benefit Clinton and harm Trump, rather than the other way around, then that would be catastrophic for Clinton.
But that is the opposite of what happened. The Russians appear to (correctly) believe that Donald Trump represents their best bet for American diminishment, and they appear to be acting accordingly.
