Precisely. This was the distinction I was originally making. All of us who’ve been on the Putin/Trump thing from the beginning (note: should have been everyone) have made it clear that Trump is probably something like an unwitting stooge. However I would still like to see his personal financial ties to make sure they aren’t filled with hidden oligarchs (see FT investigation today).
If only there were some precedent by which presidential candidates disclosed their financial circumstances to voters, something even “crooked” Hillary would do in the name of transparency…
Wouldn’t it be amazing to have an election where people talk about why their candidate would be a better choice versus why their candidate isn’t a worse choice… One can dream I suppose.
I am postulating an internal leak based on: DNI / DHS statement and opinions of Fleitz and Binney (with whom I think you might have an issue).
I also see DNI / DHS statement as being a bit dicey ie it looks like manure, smells like manure, tastes like manure, but we can’t say 100% it’s manure. That seems geopolitically non threatening, while politically serving Clinton as a way to paint Trump as Putin’s toady.
You and I fall on different side of this issue, in that your writing sounds the alarm on Russia interfering in our political process. I am concerned with a Dem machine that thinks throwing our secrets up on the unprotected web is okay.
Well yeah, because, as you correctly suggest, those are uninformed opinions, not conclusions. Neither of them has a security clearance. Neither is in a position to judge the case as DNI Clapper is – and, contrary to their innuendo, Clapper had been very clear about the evidence and the conclusions that proceed from it. Furthermore, Fleitz works at Frank Gaffney’s disreputable and discredited nuthouse, the Center for Security Policy.
There is, of course, much more to be said, including incident responders’ analyses, very specific evidence attributed by the German BND to the GRU, and so on. But we’ve already litigated that stuff and to my knowledge there has arisen no new evidence that might change it.
For the record I am not trying to push back re: HRC’s reckless infosec practices, on which issue I agree entirely.
It cannot be more bizarre, I had to drive to the airport twice this past weekend, which is clear across town for me. So I purposely looked for election bumper stickers. I saw an ‘obama\ biden 2008’ sticker, some old gubernatorial election stickers on some old cars, not a single ‘Trump’ or ‘Hillary’ sticker. 50 miles each way, I didn’t see one. They’re may have been a few I missed, it’s possible, but the lack of people willing to admit who they are voting for has me curious.
I drove through the heart of downtown Atlanta 4 times, no political stickers. It’s just WEIRD! I have never seen an election cycle like this.
No, I don’t have one on my car. I wouldn’t have one on my car if I loved the candidate, because who ever is running, I like my car more.
And then the new FBI allegations… There is just to much smoke from the Hillary campaign for there to be not even a little fire. I don’t think the FBI would open a new investigation if they didn’t already find something pretty significant. Too many heads under the guillotine if they are totally wrong about it. I guess we’ll see soon enough, but I wish they would offer us a little crum…
Actually, I read where Mr. obama said that Michelle would never, ever run, doesn’t want to and would never consider it. So we are safe there. I wish Condoleezza Rice would run… She’s like the most intelligent person I have ever heard speak. I remember some ‘hard hitting’ interview where the interviewer was challenging her and she just handled the questions like a boss. I was like 'Damn… “Check out the brains on Brad!”…
Going out on a limb here, but I believe one of the reasons she won’t (or can’t?) on the Republican ticket is because she’s pro-choice. Might be wrong on that though…
Agree that she is very qualified and would be a fantastic candidate.
On abortion, Rice is “mildly pro-choice.” While she opposes late-term abortions and Medicaid payments for abortion and wants parental notification and consent where a minor is involved, Rice supports the basic libertarian idea that it is up to a woman to decide whether to have an abortion, and she is against getting the government involved.
Rice identifies strongly with President Bush’s “view that we have to respect and need to have a culture that respects life.” “We have to try and bring people to have respect for [the culture of life,]” she says, “and make [abortion] as rare a circumstance as possible.” On the issue of federal funding for abortion, she comes down against it “because I believe that those who hold a strong moral view on the other side should not be forced to fund it.”
I still stand by the fact that she would be a fantastic candidate. The president doesn’t make abortion law, so I don’t like that it is a qualifier to run on the Republican ticket. Another example of how the GOP shoots themselves in the foot.
