I think that’s a fair assessment, but that’s not how you originally frame your response.
This is where we got off on the wrong foot. I never made the claim that Trump wants to Nuke anyone. As you later said, my statement can be interpreted to allege Trump will be reckless with nuclear weapons. I do believe this, but being reckless doesn’t mean just in their use. It can also be in their proliferation, which we do have him on record discussing as it relates to Japan and their ability to protect themselves against North Korea.
I could have phrased it better. I could have picked a more easily defendable Trump blunder. It happens.
I disagree that it is unfair. Journalist’s use anonymous sources regularly. If anything is unfair, I think claiming Joe Scarborough is bought and paid for without proof is unfair.
I really wanted you to prove that Scarborough is bought and paid for, ie, a liar.
The key word here is “wants”. I don’t think he “wants” to nuke anyone either. However, this is the same guy that will go on an hour long tirade via Twitter if he’s angry about something. You’ll have to forgive me for not trusting his judgement with the most destructive weapon in human history.
Which I believe he did when he talked about allowing the Japanese to become a nuclear state.
Again, though, I never claimed Trump would use a nuclear weapon or that he wants to use a nuclear weapon. I claimed he doesn’t seem to understand why we can’t (should have written shouldn’t) use them. Those are two very different things.
I think you should hold yourself to that same standard:
You and I and anyone else for that matter will not have an issue as long as the tone remains civil. My panties get all twisted up when people start calling me junior, butt boy, etc…
I also think that since you’re late to the game here (in this election) you’ve got the wrong impression of a number of posters or at least me. I will try and correct that now.
Probably a year ago, CountingBeans, wrote a post that many of us agreed with. His position was essentially that while Trump might be the lesser of two evils (the degree of which is debatable) the medium and longer term consequences of a Clinton Presidency are actually good for the Republicans. This is for a number of reasons, which I’ll briefly put here:
-We’re due an economic downturn/recession. If HRC is President we get to blame Obama and Hillary for this.
-The Middle East is a mess and this isn’t going to change anytime soon.
-Race in America is a mess. This isn’t going to change anytime soon.
I don’t remember if Beans wrote this or not, but one other thing that I think is important to note is that Republicans will be able to oppose HRC in everything she does and be seen as heroes to the party and base. They do not have this luxury with a Trump Administration.
Point being, if Trump turns out to the be the middle of the road liberal that I believe he will be, then the Republicans in Congress will have very little choice except to follow lock step behind him; otherwise, they’ll be seen as obstructionists to their own party and their constituents. Then they’ll be removed.
My personal opinion is that the GOP took years of hard-fought victories at almost every level of government and washed it down the drain with a Trump nomination. Not because I hate the man, but because he’s an absolutely abhorrent candidate that doesn’t seem to grasp very basic concepts that a commander in chief should understand. I’ve aired all of these complaints out before so there is no need to do it again but suffice it to say there are numerous issues.
In short, I’ll protest vote in the hopes that independents will reach 5% and pray Republicans hold the Congress. Not because I think Johnson is this awesome candidate, but because I think Trump is worse medium and longterm.
That’s because you have such utter contempt for the man. If I asked you how much you bench press and you said 300 pounds I would not doubt you. We don’t get along but that claim is not so difficult to believe.
I know that there are people on this site who hate Trump so much (you being one) that it colors their judgment about every word out of his mouth. I get it. But the above claim of playing golf and going for long walks is really nothing so grandiose that it is impossible to believe…unless as I said your over the top hate for Trump has colored your judgment.
Yes, you’ve made yet another mistake. One more time, I don’t hate Obama I hate his policies. Contrast that with the posts that a few of the other T Nation members have written about Trump. If you can’t see the difference then you are totally blind.
By the way I’m still waiting for that post about all of Obama’s accomplishments.
You talk big for someone who tried to defend Obama and ended up running away.
It’s hard not to respond when you feel like your position is being mischaracterized or you feel you are being wrongfully attacked. However, point taken. I have room to grown like everyone else and I know I can be hot headed at times.
